Limavady v Randalstown

Saturday, 12th February 2022

With the season closing in with just four games remaining and every point important Limavady entertained Randalstown this week. Limavady were the first to trouble the score board when right wing, Brandon Maxwell did well to beat his opposite number and touch down in the corner. Both teams fought hard after this and the only other points added in the first half was a penalty by Limavady’s out-half, Peter Wilson. Limavady were unfortunate not to be further ahead when they had a try disallowed as the referee deemed the final pass to be forward, much to the surprise of the home support.

Half-Time: Limavady 8 Randalstown 0

The second half carried on as before with both sides putting on a very entertaining game, trading tries right to the very end. Limavady were first up when Jim McCartney finished off a well worked move. Back came Randalstown and they were rewarded when Owen Letters managed to break the home defence. Limavady took more control of the game at this point and ran in two more scores. The first came as a result of a deftly placed kick ahead by Jim McCartney and Ben Riley was first on to the loose ball to touch down under the posts. The all important bonus point try came five minutes later when centre, Jamie Millar just managed to get in, in the corner. Randalstown did not lie down though as back they came and managed to get another try scored by David Smyth. Limavady thought they had their fifth try with five minutes remaining, when following a high up and under from Peter Wilson, Jamie Millar outjumped the Randalstown defender, catching  the ball cleanly and feeding on to his winger, Ben Millar. Ben sped away to touch down in the corner however the referee again intervened to say he had placed his foot in touch and thus ruled the score out. With a fifteen point cushion Limavady managed the game through to the final whistle.

No game next week and then it’s on the road again the week after with an away fixture with Donaghadee.
