A large crowd were drawn to Upritchard Park on a sunny afternoon to watch Bangor host the Perennials for their last game of the season on Irish soil, and final preparation for theforthcoming tour to Bilbao in May.

With a great turn out of 29 players to choose from, selectors Colin McKee and Terry McCracken were spoiled for choice. After much deliberation, the starting XV were sent out and an even first quarter was lost only to a late try in Bangor’s favour.

The home side extended their lead moments into the second quarter with a try under the posts following a long kick downfield and a large gap opening up in the Perennial’s defensive line. With things looking ominous, the Perennials ran off the drink from the previous evening at Ravenhill, and Stewart Porter’s strong run and pass put Philip Blaney in for a try to reduce the deficit. This period ended with more pressure from the visitors and Stewart Porter scored himself courtesy of good work by Neil McConkey, leaving the scoreline two tries apiece at the mid point.
