This is a special season for Malone RFC as you celebrate promotion to Division 1B of the newly constructed Ulster Bank League.
As President of the IRFU, I am delighted to extend my best wishes to President, Gary Quantrill and all members and hope that the club enjoys success through all the grades.
I further take this opportunity to acknowledge the important work being done at Union Committee level by your stalwart member Neil Jackson.
Malone contributed richly to the excitement and drama that marked last season’s introduction of the new format for our premier inter-club competition. It proved to be very popular with players and club followers and as your club experienced, the end of season promotional battles – no more than the relegation issues – added tremendous excitement to the club fare.
The generation of greater activity in the clubs on match days is an important development giving the big challenges facing our game as a consequence of the tough economic environment.
It is also in keeping with the wishes of the Union that the clubs form the backbone of Irish rugby.
