6 of the Best for Malone as they defeat Bruff RFC

Malone made it 3 wins from 3 outings claiming yet another bonus point win against Bruff.

Malone are sitting 2 points clear at the top of the Division 1B table after another superb performance against Limerick visitors Bruff RFC.

Malone outscored Bruff by 6 tries to 0 and the final scoreline of 46-3 was a fair reflection of Malone’s dominance in the game.

Malone opened the scoring on 7 minutes when out half Niall O’Connor kicked a penalty after Bruff infringed.
Malone’s first try came on 13 min when from their own 22, O’Connor put in a cross field kick which winger Chris Leathem caught and he started the attack, Robbie Diack attacked up the centre before the ball was moved wide and winger Michael Barked showed great pace and power to cut inside and score under the posts. O’Connor added the conversion. Malone ahead 10-0.

On 13 min Malone were awarded a penalty after a great break by Chris Leathem and once again Niall O’Connor found the target. Score now 13-0.

Malone were unfortunate not to score ahain when they turned over a five meter scrum, Diack attacked from the base of the scrum and it took several Bruff defenders to bring him to the ground, he managed to off load the ball to Connor Joyce who was also brought to ground the play broke down when Malone were penalised by the referee for going off their feet.

Bruff were unlucky not to score when Josh Pentland was robbed of the ball, the ball was hacked forward and a foot race ensued , however the ball rolled over the Malone dead ball line. Bruff were awarded a penalty after Malone were penalised for hands in the ruck and Brian Carroll scored the subsequent penalty.

Malone ended the first half with their second try when after a great line out number 8 Diack went on a storming run, the ball was moved wide through O’Connor to winger Chris Leathem who set down in the corner, once again O’Connor added an excellent touchline conversion to give Malone a 20-3 half time lead.

Malone made a strong start to the second half and on 43 min they scored their third try when Bruff kicked and failed to find touch Malone ran the ball back through Barker, and O’Connor kicked over the Bruff defence and Robbie Diack won the footrace to score close to the posts to leave O’Connor an easy conversion to take Malone ahead by 27-3.

Winger Chris Leathem scored the bonus point try on 50 min when O’Conner took a quick tap penalty moved the ball to Pentland who made a great break before putting Leathem away to score in the corner, once again O’Connor added the conversion. Score now 34-3.

Michael Barker claimed his second try on 56 mins when after a poor kick from Bruff the ball was collected and moved along the back line for Barker to have an easy run in.

Barker had the final say and claimed his third try of the day on 79 mins when after a fine break by centre Pentland the ball was moved to Alcorn who fed the final pass to Barker to score in the corner, O’Connor scored a superb touchline conversion to leave Malone winners by 46-3.
