Queens were away this Saturday in double-header league and cup game.

Early pressure from Malone was soaked up well by the Queens defence, until 20 minutes in a missed tackle led to a converted Malone try under the posts.  Malone missed several chances to extend the lead with 3 missed penalties, much to the Queens relief.  This kept the team within reach, as things eventually started to turn in Queens’s favour.  An up and under by Backus, was hacked on by the same player and chased down by Ben Kennedy, who skilfully slotted it past the fullback, running round behind him to touch down for a try.  This left the game 7-5 to Malone at the half.

Queens started the 2nd half with intent and conviction.  A series of good plays was rewarded with a David Kenny penalty, putting the visitors a point ahead.   Malone managed to grab a try against the run of play however, once again gaining the lead at 12-8.

Malone 2 v Queens 2

Good work by the pack in securing the scrum against a bigger pack, and particularly to Johnny ‘Tree’ Heron in stealing lineout ball; kept things in Queens favour.  Sam Shepherd then took matters into his own hands, switching the direction of play and scoring in the corner.  An excellent Conversion by Kenny left the final scores at 15-12, and a convincing victory for the Queens side.

With more performances like this, a good cup run is definatly in sight for the 2XV.
