Tuesday nights round two draw of the Powerade Towns’ Cup handed Lurgan a home local derby against neighbours and Kukri Qualifying section one side Dromore, Writes Paddy Allen.
Lurgan’s wish of a home draw came true having received a bye in the opening round and they will look forward to the stiff test against a side two league above them.
When the draw was made thoughts went back to 2007 when the sides produced a cracking encounter at Pollock Park when Lurgan came back from 21 – 3 down only to lose out 27 – 23 in the end and give a great account of themselves.
Both clubs will look forward to the game as will both sets of supporters in what surely will be a bumper crowd on Saturday February 5.
Before that Lurgan have two important league games both at home to Monaghan this Saturday followed by Letterkenny on January 29 and two wins would set them up well for the visit of Dromore.
Elsewhere in the 2nd round draw 2010 winners Ballymoney have home advantage against Kukri Qualifying two outfit Donaghadee in what could possibly be the tie of the round. Omagh’s gain for defeating a strongly fancied Portadown in round one is a trip to Banbridge while Armagh entertain Ballyclare.
Powerade Towns’ Cup 2nd Round draw: (Ties to be played on Saturday February 5 with replays on or before Wednesday February 16): Ballynahinch vs Larne; Ballymoney vs Donaghadee; Clogher Valley vs Limavady; Bangor vs Enniskillen; Carrickfergus vs Dungannon; Lurgan vs Dromore; Armagh vs Ballyclare; Banbridge vs Omagh.
