The MIGHTY TWOS must surely have brought a smile to the mystery sponsor of this weeks match ball, the Mill Hill Rambler, as they defeated Dungannon 27-5 in a sometimes over-competitive match. CLICK HERE for the shotssssssssssssss
Dungannon were unable to field props for the match and had forfeited the points prior to the game. They did travel with eighteen players and it was agreed that substitutes could be used for the game which had effectively become a friendly. Lurgan tried to move the ball at every opportunity and the backs were making good gains each time they did with one of the tries passing along the whole backline before being scored.
The referee sin-binned a back for what appeared to be a good hard tackle that lifted a dungannon player off his feet. From the resulting penalty Dungannon scored but it was the only time they really troubled Lurgan. The MIGHTY TWOS scored a few more tries, Josh McKay kicked well with the conversions and penalties.
The match got over competitive and ill-discipline crept in and during one of these “handbag discussions” Lurgan backs went down the pitch and scored. The referee at this stage must have got fed up with the ill-discipline, as at a ruck one of the Lurgan players was lifted in the air by his feet by a Dungannon player and was then sin-binned as he struggled to get his feet on the ground before being tipped over.
Dungannon tried to rally but to no avail and Lurgan comfortably held on to win.
This week Lurgan’s lineouts were not as productive as in previous matches but the breakdown area seemed better and the backs ran better lines.
Players are reminded that training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays so that the team can improve and keep the good start to the season continuing.
