Living the lifestyle of your desires… a special collaborative blog to clarify what we mean by ‘lifestyle’
The Socratic method postulates that we must define words and ideas they signify otherwise we will never understand what we are talking about. Similarly in a conversation I have a different definition of a work than you then we are not talking about the same thing and this could perhaps mean we are not having a conversation! If we have not defined our terms and are possibly then not having a conversation… then what are we doing? Babbling, talking about different things… and usually getting nowhere.
This is why I’m taking this time to define the word ‘Lifestyle’ as i use it. I define it in a very loose and almost all encompassing way. It is probably best to say it is a life, a state of living in which a person’s environment includes that which they want. So this could be to be surrounded by nature. to be surrounded by commerce and the wheels and whir of industry. Perhaps a person adores classical music, poetry and the true beauty of fine art. Perhaps it is to be fit and healthy in mind and body. Perhaps it all of these things. Having access to the things you enjoy like https://conquestador.com/ for example is all part of this living one’s desired lifestyle.
However to be more precise, i’m defining lifestyle positively and subjectively but we can also define it objectively and say it is the environment in which a human organism is. Nothing less nothing more, and this could be unhealthy, healthy, happy, sad, any number of attributes. Fit, unfit, in good shape in bad shape. We would say “they are living an unhealthy lifestyle”. so lifestyle the word does not judge whether a persons lifestyle is good or bad, healthy or unhealthy. So the word is not emotive, it rather can be used to describe the normal daily goings on with a particular person. “what sort of lifestyle do they lead…. their lifestyle is damaging their health. They are so happy because of their lifestyle.
When we use the word on InTouch Rugby we are using it to describe objectively things or items that make up either good or bad, healthy or unhealthy daily norms. We are careful about making claims of what is good or bad, healthy or unhealthy because lots of lifestyle choices are subjective. they are considered good by one person and not by another. Getting objective about lifestyle choices and decisions can be cultural, scientific, familial, religiously affected… and any number of factors can come into play.
Since engaging in our blogging though we have come to appreciate certain things we hold to be objectively true and which can be influenced by lifestyle choice about food about media consumption about mental approach, about ethos and culture and a number of other things.
It is with great pleasure that we have written this little article as a way if you will of discussing the idea of ‘lifestyle’ and how we are using the term on our blog.
I do hope you enjoy our little musings and please do not hesitate to recommend us! Thank you so very much!
Best Wishes!
