Second XV trump Dromore counterparts
Lisburn 2nd XV 25 – Dromore 2nd XV 0
At Blaris last Saturday the Tata Steel sponsored 2nd XV overcame their Dromore counterparts to keep their good run of form intact. Having won 3 of their first 4 games they are now maintaining their challenge for League honours but there is still a long way to go and current injury problems in the club is not helping matters.
The 2s, under the captaincy of Matt Brown, opened the scoring after ten minutes with a simple penalty from winger Robin Brown but within minutes had increased the score to 8-0 after scrumhalf Richard Dawson made a sharp break on the five metre line.

Unfortunately the conversion rebounded off the post. The Lisburn pack were getting their own ball in the forward exchanges with the front row of Brown, Foxwell and Dickson to the fore. Alan Hughes in the second row was also claiming plenty of possession in the lineouts but the combative Dromore forwards were making them work hard up front. At the end of the first quarter, with the game swinging from end to end, Lisburn again increased their lead when the versatile Robin Brown dropped a goal to make the score 11-0 and despite a lot of huffing and puffing, this is the way it remained until the interval.
At half time coach Kenny Millen rounded up his men for a better second half and within five minutes it paid dividends. The forwards took the ball to the Dromore 22 and Alan Hughes was then on hand to charge through the defence and score under the posts. The Brown conversion made it 18-0 to Lisburn.
The experienced Lisburn backline ofDawson, Keterer, Postlethwaite and Jamison were using the ball well in attack as well as defending stoutly but it was good to see the younger generation of Lisburn players coming through the ranks and Nimmon, Kenny Millen Junior, Foxwell, Hodkinson and Kelso were all prominent in a good team effort.
On thirty minutes it was that man Robin Brown again who broke a tackle on 40 metres and dashed to the line to break the Dromore hearts with as nice a swallow dive as you would see. He converted the try to bring up a personal contribution of 15 points and the Lisburn score to 25-0 and that was the way it stayed until the end. Next week the 2s have a free date and the spotlight will fall on the 3rd XV who have the Lisburn support to themselves with a home fixture against Coleraine 3s at Blaris.
