Limavady Rugby preseason will begin on the 2nd July and we would love to see you there! As always we are happy to recruit new playing and non-playing members this close season, so if you don’t have a club, had lost interest, are new to the game or just fancy a bit of craic, why not come and join us. There is an exciting preseason training regime in place so don’t worry about your fitness or skill level, our coaches are trained and prepared for any level of player. We are a family orientated club with a great social element. This year we hosted Parisian team Vigneux-Sur-Seine as part of Limavady’s 400th year birthday celebrations, which was a great occasion for all involved. We also took over 90 club members to Westport on a three day tour, where we defeated Castlebar RFC and Westport RFC, which was a great success – both on and off the field.
The club also boasts cricket, soccer, hockey and bowls teams, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. Our junior rugby teams include; mini & maxi teams (Ages 5-11), under 13, under 15 and under 17 sides. We have three senior teams, our 1St XV who play in the very competitive Kukri Qualifying 2, the 2nd XV who last year won promotion to Ulster Junior League Section 3, and the 3rd XV who play in the Ulster Minor League (North).
As well as training this summer we have a preseason friendly against Dromore (County Down) on 10th August, before sailing off a week later on the 16th August for an intense training camp in Ayr, Scotland. Here we will take on Ayr RFC, a British And Irish Cup team, that compete in a tournament that possess teams like Ulster Ravens, Munster A and the defending champions Leinster A. Also we will meeting Wigtownshire RFC, another competitive side that will hold us in good stead for the commencing season.
Then on the 24th August we will be enjoying a Family fun day & barbecue along with a preseason tournament with teams from all over Ireland. Castlebar will travel up from County Mayo in Connacht, for a rematch from our close season tour. Leinster’s Suttonians will make their way from north Dublin, and Ulster’s Donaghadee, will come across from the Ards peninsula, to continue their rivalry with Roe Valley’s finest.
Also the 24th our 3XV will be playing a game against the Northern Ireland Prison Service, in memory of our team mate, our colleague, and but most importantly our friend, Jason McMullan, who sadly passed away in May.
Last season, our commitment to recruiting new players, mostly from Limavady Grammar School, resulted in the reformation of our 3XV, a great social side who went unbeaten in 15 league games, before falling short at the final hurdle to finish 3rd. Three of the players who committed themselves to the team, had never played rugby before. Please remember that we cater for everybody and we hope to see you, as much as you want to see us.
So if you fancy a challenge, meeting some old friends or maybe just making some new ones, why not come down and join us. Preseason will be every Tuesday starting on the 2nd July, and if you want any more information please contact the Club on 02877762201.
