Limavady U17 vs Rainey U17. 28th January 2012 Limavady travelled to Rainey with a number of key backs missing but they began the match with a point prove after a good performance the week before. The Limavady pack dominated the first 20 mins with great rucking and driving from all the pack with David Whiteside and Robbie OIiver leading from the front. Limavady really should have scored on two occasions but the Rainey defense held strong. The Limavady men had the bit between their teeth and continued their great running rugby but Rainey weren’t having any of it and scored a try and penalty before half time to leave the score 8 points to nil. The second half began by Limavady continuing to put Rainey on the back foot with the Limavady pack and backs playing some excellent rugby. However Limavady where penalised for a number of infringements which the excellent Rainey kicker converted to 12 points in Rainey’s favour. Limavady continued to press throughout the remainder of the second half but where unable to convert good field position into points and Rainey scored another 11 points to finish at full time 31 points to nil. This was a very good performance by the limavady team with all of the players showing their rugby skills with some playing in different positions and providing an insight to their potential to play for the senior rugby team in the seasons to come. A special mention must be made to those players who played out of their normal positions who all played very well. Man of the match was difficult to choose this week again due to a lot of fantastic performances from both backs and forwards but David Whiteside has been named as man of the match.
