REPORT U15S MATCH V DONEGAL TOWN SATURDAY DECEMBER 15TH
Letterkenny came away from Donegal Town on Saturday with a very well earned and hard fought 17-10 victory. The visitors knew exactly what to expect and were not disappointed with their most competitive and challenging game of the season. Very few teams in this league have taken points from their visit to Donegal Town which makes the result even more satisfying.
Letterkenny had the better of the first half exchanges with the boot of outhalf Daniel Faulkner keeping Donegal pinned in their own 22. The pressure exerted by the Letterkenny pack soon gave the backs ball to run and Sam Maginty was put into space on the right wing. He still had plenty to do and showed great strength to get over the line. This score was soon followed by a great try from man of the match Paul Johnston who ripped the ball from an opponent and left everyone in his wake on his way over the line.
The first twenty minutes of the second half was a complete contrast with Donegal Town establishing territory and were soon rewarded with two similar tries through their forwards. At this stage the visitors had to compose themselves and regain their discipline and composure. From the drop off Letterkenny blitzed the home defence and regained possession. Great work from the half backs of Khavia and Faulkner created space for Maginty to score a carbon copy try to give Letterkenny a lead that they never looked like relinquishing.
This was an excellent team performance with Joe Dunleavy, Martin Molloy, Peter Scott and the afore mentioned Johnston outstanding. James Roulston did very well when introduced at loos head. In the backs Louis Carson was solid in the extreme in his defensive tackling as were Matthew Faulkner and Eunan Henry. Stephen Holmes also had a very solid game at second centre.
This result now leaves Letterkenny well positioned in the premier league with five wins out of seven. Training continues on Wednesday night at Aura.
Our 13s kept their winning streak up with a win away in Donegal Town on Saturday.
Our 13s got the match underway on the wet and shortened pitch. The 13s put pressure on the Donegal defence eventually causing Donegal to make a mistake which led to the try scored by Jonathon Peoples. Finn McGarvey added the extra two points for Letterkenny. The 13s had some more great chances just getting stopped by the Donegal defence. The time came again for another try this time scored by Oisin McGarvey and again Finn McGarvey put the conversion over the bar. Donegal had a good chance but the ball cleared away by our full-back Rory MacGinty.More great pressure on the Donegal defence saw Letterkenny up in the Donegal half.Finn McGarvey did a few steps and scored a beatifull try. Conversion was harder this time with Owen Doherty just missing. No more good chances in the first-half. But in the second half Jonathon Peoples added his second after James Sweeneys scoring oppurtunity was held up.In the last quarter Donegal were in the Letterkenny half for most of it but great Letterkenny defence held them off on every effort.
