Thomas Cook Sport sets the scene for the Rugby World Cup

Rugby World Cup, New Zealand, 9 September – 23 October 2011
In just a few weeks time, New Zealand will host the largest sporting event to take place on its shores, with 13 venues hosting 48 matches across the country as the Rugby World Cup kicks off on 9 September 2011.

As Official Travel Agent for Rugby World Cup 2011, Thomas Cook Sport is taking fans to the tournament and there are still some great deals, with limited availability, for a range of fully inclusive tours taking in pool matches and later rounds of the competition.

For those looking to create their own trip to this fantastic country, fans can choose from a selection of flights, hotel & ticket match breaks, self drive and motor home offers – all with the option of adding official match tickets.

Danny Talbot, managing director, Thomas Cook Sport, said, “We’re looking forward to an amazing tournament in a very special part of the world. With the British Isles well represented, there are plenty of reasons to cheer on our home teams and we’re pleased to be taking fans so they can show their support.”

England

Following the IRB announcement following the earthquake in New Zealand earlier this year, England’s two pool matches originally scheduled for Christchurch have been moved to Dunedin, and the Quarter Finals scheduled for Christchurch have been moved to Auckland.

After the highs of winning the title in 2003, and then losing to South Africa in the Final in 2007, England will be looking to regain some of their former glory. With a host of new names entering the fray and the recent return of Jonny Wilkinson, Martin Johnson’s England team will come out fighting on the hunt for the Webb Ellis Cup.

Wales

Wales will be looking to improve on their 2007 performance in France where they were eliminated in the pool stages after losses to Australia and Fiji, and perhaps emulate or go better than their 1987 placing of 3rd overall.

Ireland

Ireland have made it to the quarter-final stage of the Rugby World Cup in all but two competitions and will be looking to improve their best finishes so far at the Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand.

Scotland

Scotland have qualified for the quarter-finals in every Rugby World Cup tournament since it was introduced in 1987 and will be looking to improve on their best finish so far which came in 1991 when they lost to the All Blacks in the third place play-off.
