Sat past saw the u17s travel to coleraine for a round robin tournament involving the host club plus Limavady & ballymoney. Larne were hampered by unavailability & injury but still travelled with optimism of competing well.
First match was against the home side coleraine who are a premier league team & this was proven in the opening 10 mins as they raced into a 10-0 lead. Larne eventually woke from the slumber & a break by stu Andrews from his own 22 saw him score a superb solo try which he converted. Larne pressed hard but were denied by the clock in what was a ding dong battle.
They were straight out against ballymoney next but fitness told in addition to losing their main man luke burford who suffered a knee ligament injury & had to retire. ‘money took full advantage to notch 3 tries to no reply in a 15-0 win.
Larne kept their best to last with tries by star man Andrews (2) & jack finley who is starting to excel in his new role as a 7. Andrews kicked all conversions in a fine 21-7 win in what was a very enjoyable tournament.
The lads had an afternoon at leisure at portrush whilst watching glenn Wilson ride the waves on his surfboard.
The u13s trained amonst 100 odd minis on sat am & will look forward to their forthcoming league campaign.
