Larne overcome Holywood, Ballymena, Carrick and Academy in the Randalstown 15s tournament.

On Saturday 31st August, Larne travelled to Randalstown’s annual 15 aside tournament.

Larne’s first match was against the home team and hosts of the competition and partook in a close encountered match that saw Randalstown 7-0 winners of the opening game.

Larne knew they had to up their performance with Ballymena as their next opponents. Slick hands and great support led the scorers Nick Kelso and Johnny Hall into a good half time lead. However Ballymena kicked off and got themselves onto the board with a worked try of their own. Larne were determined to defend the lead and kept pressure on Ballymena until the final whistle.

Larne Lose out to strong CIYMS
by Stephen Johnston

Larne 3rds lost 45-17 on Saturday 31st August against CIYMS 4s at the Glynn. Larne faced a tough game against a well drilled CI side but Larne were the ones who started strong with 2 tries in quick succession from center Ian McIlheron. CIYMS responded in back, running great lines to break through an otherwise stubborn Larne defense. Mesmerising footwork from McIlheron produced another try for Larne to lead going into half time. CIYMS came out strong in the second half shutting out all attempts by Larne to score and the referee disallowing a try from Andrew Ferguson. CI took advantage of a tiring Larne team to run in a slew of tries despite a tackling master class from Larne’s Ricky Bergin, and won the game. Larne gave a good account of what they are capable of against a strong opponent.
