Weather conditions made for a fantastic day of rugby on the field and both teams played the game in an open, contested and spirited manor. Though too quick at times for the old legs, it has to be said. Tries were a many and there was some nice displays of skills. Jackie Wharry was providing the crowd once again with his mazy runs. Though he may have been still drunk from his recent trip to Bulgaria. There were a couple of injuries to the ole boys team which came as no surprise I suppose but it didnβt upset the balance fortunately π It has to be said that Ricky Adair has to be applauded for his dealings in the transfer market. As his couple of one day signings may have proved to be the match turner in favour of the old guard.
Davy Brown has to be thanked for taking control of the match – his knees are too shot to have actually put a jersey on. Though I am still questioning some of his decisions but that’s probably because the rules have change too bloody much for my liking.
The outcome in the end was a win for the ole boys and it was a nice moment to have Arthur James and Gerry McCullough’s mother present the trophy to the winning captain Johnny McFetridge.
So a big thank you to all the players for taking the time out to make the day a memorable one. Also a word of thanks to all those who supported both teams and stayed behind to watch the Heineken Cup Final. It’s days like this that build the spirit within our Rugby Club’s community and we hope to see that continue to build over the coming months.
