LAND ROVER PROVIDES TRACTION FOR AFRICAN RUGBY
WEDNESDAY, 05.FEB.2014

Combined press release from Land Rover SSA & Bhubesi Pride Foundation:

In an exciting development for grass roots rugby in sub-Saharan Africa, Land Rover has partnered with Bhubesi Pride Foundation and will be providing the organisation with a fleet of three Land Rover Defenders.

The burgeoning charity actively promotes community development across ten countries in Africa, primarily through coaching of rugby at schools level, with the objective of empowering local teaching staff and uniting African school children, promoting leadership qualities.

Land Rover is now established as lead partner through the provision of a 110 and two 130 Defenders. These versatile vehicles, for so long a familiar site in Africa’s rugged environment, have been undergoing expedition-specific preparation in South Africa and are now on the road, headed for Nairobi.

The Land Rover brand is well-represented in the countries which will be visited during the course of the 5-month, 15,000km journey and arrangements have been made with the dealer network to provide full service support.

Land Rover’s sub-Sahara Africa regional headquarters, based in Pretoria, has made advance arrangements to leverage the activities of Bhubesi Pride’s team, through the involvement of dealer staff and stakeholders, thus assisting in publicising the organisation’s noble objectives to an even broader audience.

Land Rover’s close association with the sport of rugby has been evident at the highest levels in the form of the Rugby World Cup, so this new coaching venture ensures the brand is now an integral component of the sport from the very highest level right down to grass roots.

Africa is a developing continent in which Land Rover has made substantial investments and the company fully endorses the community-driven projects initiated by Bhubesi Pride Foundation, particularly as these activities promote community involvement and the development of team skills.

Nigel Clarke, Jaguar Land Rover sub-Sahara Africa Operations Director, enthusiastically endorsed Jaguar Land Rover sub-Sahara Africa’s investment in the activities and objectives of Bhubesi Pride Foundation, noting in particular the parallels between the re-establishment and ongoing development of the Land Rover sub-Sahara Africa division and the uplifting of skills within the broader community.

Clarke noted that sport is an important component of community life and that Land Rover is committed to investing in people within a continent in which it is becoming increasingly active.

He told us:

“Bhubesi Pride’s project work provides us with an ideal platform to promote our corporate and business objectives across sub-Sahara Africa. We are therefore extremely happy to become an integral component of this worthy exercise and trust our Land Rovers will help drive the success of the ongoing community-based partnership to new heights.”
