With the Rugby World Cup in full swing UK ladies must be getting hot under the collar, having voted Rugby players the sexiest sportsmen. Over 1/3 of women said Rugby breeds the best bodies, proving that real men beat pretty boys every time with only 16% voting footballers the sexiest sportsmen according to research from one of the world’s most popular social dating communities, Zoosk.co.uk.
However single Rugger-lovers better be careful. Just under one in five (18%) of women admitted to being phantom supporters – dipping in and out of sports just to impress potential matches so guys should make sure their dates really know their ‘touch-judge’ from their ‘up and under’.
It also appears sport is the way to win female attention, with over half (56%) of women saying that men who play sports are altogether ‘fitter’ than their couch-potato-counterparts. Perhaps unsurprisingly 55% of men said they didn’t find sporting lasses a turn-on…maybe they’re just scared of being beaten by a girl!
Surprisingly when it comes to putting your best foot forward and keeping in tip-top shape women snubbed make-up and fake tan (12%) and said the key to looking good was the traditional ‘5-a-day’ (46%) and exercise such as running (27%). Men agreed, with over half (51%) saying healthy eating kept their bodies as temples, with lifting weights second at 32%. Even certain rugby players would agree with 5% of men who said that beauty treatments like manicures and eyebrow shaping kept them looking their best!

Sport is a great way to get the blood racing with a third of men (34%) and women (33%) agreeing watching sport is a massive turn-on and, in the run up to the London games, both men and women think summer 2012 will be the perfect environment to meet new partners (24%). Whilst only 6% of respondents were lucky enough to have got tickets for the summer games this doesn’t seem to have dampened spirits too much. 70% of all respondents agreed that the London games next year will bring new opportunities for the whole of the UK (not just for singles), a remarkable ‘thumbs up’ from a usually cynical Britain.
“This survey of Zoosk’s singles proves that few interests are quite as attractive as playing sports. The biggest surprise for us was that Rugby beat Football as the sexiest sport among British singles.” said Alex Mehr, Zoosk’s co-founder and co-CEO. “With such a wealth of fantastic sporting events lined up it’s no wonder the UK is proud of their sportsmen and women, and no surprise that sporting singles are top of the picks in the dating scene.”
