This is the fifth year that BTWShiells, Northern Ireland’s largest commercial and residential practice, has organised the charity tag tournament which to date has raised more than £25,000 for local charities.
Stuart Draffin from BTWShiells said: “This year’s chosen charity is Barnardo’s NI and I am confident that we will once again be in a position to donate a substantial sum to this very worthy cause.
“Happily the tournament has become a major highlight in the arena of the tag rugby season attracting teams from right across the Province proving that it is one of the most popular summer sporting activities played by both men and women”
Leona McEvoy from Barnardo’s NI said: “We are delighted BTWShiells has chosen Barnardo’s NI as the beneficiary of its charity tag rugby tournament this year.
Barnardo’s NI has over 40 services throughout Northern Ireland. These services reach out, protect and support children and young people who are disadvantaged, who are at risk, whose pathways in life have been fractured, and who face individual and collective adversities in their young lives that most of us will never encounter.
“Every penny raised through BTWShiells Tag Rugby tournament will go towards Barnardo’s NI services to help us continue to promote positive outcomes for all children in terms of their wellbeing, achievement and participation as young citizens.”
She concluded: “We simply cannot thank BTWShiells enough for its support.”
The charity tag mixed rugby tournament will kick off at 1pm with section winners going through to semi final play offs with the final planned at 5pm.
The event promises to be a great day not only for the competitors battling for the honours on the pitch, but also for the crowds of family, friends and well wishers who give the event its unique atmosphere. Making sure there is entertainment for almost every age and taste the organisers have added face painters and bouncy castles plus live music and a BBQ to the sporting programme. The event will be hosted by well known Cool FM DJ, Connor Philips, who will be overseeing and encouraging all the teams during the afternoon.
Stuart Draffin says, “This year we are confident of attracting the largest ever number of teams, all competing for the title of BTWShiells Tag Rugby Charity Champions for 2013 – and for the bragging rights that go with this much talked-about Tournament! Competitiveness and fun will give us all the right ingredients for an entertaining afternoon out and at the same time supporting a very worthy cause – Barnardo’s.”
