The Ireland Women’s Team to play Wales in their opening game of the Women’s RBS 6 Nations Championship in Ashbourne RFC on Friday has been named.

The side has a new look and includes two new caps in the starting fifteen and a further four uncapped players in the replacements.

Newcomer Ashleigh Baxter will earn her first cap at fullback with Alison Miller and Niamh Kavangh completing the back three.

Ireland’s most capped player Lynne Cantwell will start at out-half and will form a new half back pairing with Amy Davis while Grace Davitt returns to the team after missing out last season and forms the centre partnership with Niamh Briggs.

Up front Fiona Coghlan will again captain the side and she is joined in the front row by Gillian Bourke and Ailis Egan.

Sophie Spence is the other new cap in the second row and she starts alongside the now established Marie Louise Reilly.

The back row has an experienced look with Laura Guest and Claire Molloy packing down either side of Joy Neville.

The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. in Ashbourne RFC on Friday night and there is a return coach for all supporters leaving Anglesea Road (Old Belvedere RFC) an hour before kickoff. The cost is 20 Euro and includes admission to the game and two drinks at the bar. For bookings contact Jenny on 083 3766 401
