IRELAND 22 FRANCE 12 19th October 2014, 16:12
Ireland secured an historic 22-16 victory over France in their opening Rugby League European Championship fixture in Tallaght Stadium yesterday.

A crowd of 1,500 watched as debutant Shannon McDonnell scored a brace of tries to give the Wolfhounds their first ever win over the French side.

With a strong wind at their backs in the first half Ireland set their stall out early when they found themselves camped inside the French twenty metre line for the opening five minutes. During that period they managed to force two goal line drop outs in quick succession.

While France’s defence was holding strong they could not withstand the continuous onslaught and it was McDonnell who grabbed the opening try on his long await debut for the Wolfhounds.

Ireland were using the conditions to their advantage and captain Bob Beswick kicked well from dummy half to put his side into prime field position………… See more at :- http://www.rli.ie/article/12502/ireland-22-france-12
