The InTouch Rugby Editor interviewed Martin on the launch day to find out what its about his thoughts having been a player and relishing the supporters build up to the biggest day in the calendar!
Martin said…..
The bus is brilliant, its an executive private bus, 2 or 3 years ago I went when leicester played Northampton and that was my first game as a proper spectator, it was a mates 40th birthday, he was in London and we got the train, i ended up getting home late!
To enter the competition fans have got to submit their memorable stories about their journeys to rugby games.
The worst story i had was when we were playing in he Anglo Welsh competiion, we were playing Ospreys and were staying about a half hour from the stadium, we got on the bus and as we pulled out the busses alarm went off and we could not stop it, all the way to the stadium!
Very fristrating, as a team you have planned your build up, we got caught in the traffic with this blaring alarm! By the time we got off the bus the tension was unbelievable, it was such a relief in the dressing room everyone was quiet, some players actually had headaches!
From a players point of view the build up the build up is meticulous, all you wanna do is get out there and focus on everything you do best.
As a fan you get completely caught up in the hype, thats why competitions like this are great, it allows the fans to get involved, the game is only part of it, its the pre match build up, and its just gonna be a great occasion and something for the fans to soak up, so many fans have a pre game routine and its great seeing that.
Green Flag are doing something that is just different, its not just sponsoring, its doing things, its all about the fans and its recognising that.
Thew sacrafices that the fans make is something i became aware of when i retired, so there is no doubt how much everyone is looking forward to the FINAL!
As for who will be in the final i think the semis will be Northhampton, Bath, Leicester and Saracens,
from that Northampton v Saracens and Bath v leicester.
I would expect to see a Northampton v Leicester final.
