Instonians/Newcastle Exiles Rugby 10s Team win the Rainey Tournament
A squad of players assembled from everywhere won the 3rd Rainey 10s tournament on saturday 7th may
This squad contained:
1st XV players
2nd XV players
3rd xv players
4th xv players
A young French student who unfortunately works with Ken Keane and was forced to play.
A squad from our friends in South Down who call themselves the “Newcastle Exiles”.
Special thanks must go to Michael Sargent who encouraged us to put together a squad for this tournamnet, Al Green for sending up the squad from County Down and all the other players who extended their season into May to make themselves available.
How they all got there in time was a miracle,it was like a scene out of “wiskey galore”.
The newcastle exiles travelled by minibus from home, relying totally on their sat nav.
A motly crew from Belfast did the same by car.
The French student gave a map to his grilfriend and left it all to chance – both of them have yet to master our native tongue.
Another travelled from Enniskillen.
More details will follow but enough to say they reached the final to win by 2 points.
The event was well run by Rainey RFC and everyone was made most welcome.
More details & photos will follow.
