Inishowen II welcomed Donegal Town II to Carndonagh last Saturday (11th Dec) for the first game since the snow cleared.
Inishowen started well, applying pressure to the Donegal side, but found it difficult to convert this pressure into scores. Ten minutes in a stray pass from the Inishowen backline was intercepted by a Donegal centre and with no defenders in sight a try was scored directly under the posts. With an easy conversion Donegal went up 7 – 0.
Inishowen had plenty of possession in the remainder of the first half, but silly knock-ons and bad handling meant they never made any opportunities from the possession. Fifteen minutes from half time and a box kick from Inishowen saw a Donegal centre in possession again. A good run from him with good support from a winger saw Donegal put another try up on Inishowen (also putting over the conversion) bringing the score to 14 – 0 .
The second half saw Donegal get a penalty from an early unbind putting them 17 – 0 ahead. Inishowen heads looked to be sinking; however the introduction of two subs (James Carr & John Mc Guinness) seemed to lift spirits slightly. With the forwards putting phase after phase together Inishowen dug deep and scored a try on the edge of the pitch (John Mc Guinness) leaving for a difficult conversion which was missed. (17 – 5 to Donegal)
Inishowen really came alive at the end of the match using a secured line out, and a rehearsed back move to score another try just beside the posts (Evan Mannion) allowing Mark “Glasha” an easy conversion. This was all however too little too late leaving the final score at 17 – 12 to Donegal.
