Tir Chonnaill U15’s 33 V Inishowen U15’s 53 Sat 12th Jan 2013

For the majority of the Inishowen lads it was their first travel to Tir Chonnaill and the journey length of 2 hours was a surprise to them. Inishowen fielded a strong side on Saturday with only 2 of the regulars missing. The home side started strongly with a well taken individual try by their out half under the posts and conversion scored (7-0). Inishowen heads seemed to be still on the bus so with a quiet chat from their coach before restart the boys picked up the tempo and aggression. Within 5 minutes Inishowen had scored a well worked try, which went through the phases and finished by Danny McCarron (7-5). Inishowen rucking was at fault for Tir Chonnaill 2nd try when the wing forward picked from the ruck and ran to the try line (14-5). Team captain Conor Carey, Declan McGee No 7. and Tom Clare No. 8 started cleaning out the rucks with greater intensity allowing scrum half McCarron to release quick ball to the backs which resulted in 3 more tries before the end of the first half, (14-22). The second half started well with second row Adam Conlon fielding the high ball and running strongly back to the Tir Chonnaill pack. The forwards more focused rumbled the ball on a number of occasions sucking in Tir Chonnaills defence for Christopher Doherty and Enda Callaghan to run in two tries each within the first 18 minutes of the second half (14-46). Tir Chonnaill kept battling away and they got their rewards with 3 tries in the last 10 minutes and Inishowens McCarron wrapped up the game with a score under the posts. Match finished (33-53). Inishowen U15’s remain at the top of their league.
