Mini Blitz in Tir Choniall
October 8, 2013 at 8:49pm
On Saturday 5th October Inishowen’s Under 8’s 10’s and 12’s travelled to Annagry in West Donegal to take part in their first blitz of the new season. There were four other clubs at the blitz – Donegal Town, Letterkenny, Ballyshannon and the hosts Tir Chonaill.
Inishowen had a strong Under 12 team and with 15 players at this age group substitutions were made on a regular basis. The team played well and although not winning all their matches they tackled ferociously and could be seen gelling as a team as the matches progressed. After their games the coach on the day choose Mark Scott as the Man of the Match for his overall contribution to the game.
The Under 10’s had a smaller pool of 7 so all got to play in each game. Not all the clubs had teams of all age groups so the number of matches varied considerably. The Callaghan twins and John Patrick McLaughlin were very hard to stop and all players gave everything to the games with the 2 new players Lorcan Diver and Tiernan McLaughlin playing out of their skins. Oliver McCaffrey and Micheal McCarron must also be mentioned for crunching tackles and Oliver scored a super try in the last game.
The Man of the Match for the U10’s was judged to be Lorcan Diver who really amazed everyone as he has only recently joined the club but who played like an old hand!
Only 5 Under 8’s travelled this time as it was so long a trip but they did our club proud. We may have had to borrow a couple of players to make up a team but still the new players certainly rose to the challenge. Jack Moore was spectacular in attack but equally important were Adam Boggs, Conal Diss and Euan McFeeley in defence and none of them gave the ball away too easily. Gary Gillen was tremendous all over the pitch and for his super effort he was picked as the Under 8’s Man of the Match.
All the players were a credit to the club and we look forward to hosting the next Mini Blitz here in Inishowen at the Carndonagh Community School on Saturday 2nd November.

Thanks to Brendan Diver for his help on the day, for taking the time to write a match report and for the team photos.
