Match Report

Limavady v Ards

Saturday, 29th September 2018

Limavady entertained Ards for the second time in a month, this time in a Junior Cup match. This game proved to be a harder fought affair than the league match which Limavady won easily. Limavady were the first on the score sheet when they were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which Luke Faulkner duly converted. Ards responded well and after twenty minutes they took the lead by way of a well worked try, finished off in the corner by their left wing. The rest of the half belonged mainly to Limavady during which time they scored four excellent tries in keeping with the free flowing rugby that they have been playing this season. First up was Luke Faulkner who scored as a result of his own individual vision when he sold a dummy and sprinted through the gap to touch down. Luke is having an excellent season to date, having just come back from a long term injury, and his growing confidence is now evident in his control of games. The next two tries, firstly by Bob Lamberton and secondly by Jody McMurray, were a result of Jonny Lees’ strong running in the midfield with the afore-mentioned gentlemen finishing off the moves. Ards were determined that Limavady were not going to run away with the game and they secured a further seven points by way of a converted try of their own. The final action of the half saw Limavady stretching their lead to 25.12 when Mark Woods was on hand to finish off another lovely move by the backline.

Half Time : Limavady 25. Ards 12

The second half proved to be a much more evenly contested confrontation with both packs trying to get the better of each other. Ards were able to prevent Limavady getting good clear possession and thus the opportunities to move the ball wide and do more damage. The only score of the second half was achieved by the hard working John McCollum when he took an inside pass from Peter Wilson and ran in to secure the touch down. Luke converted to leave the final score 32.12 and a passage through to the Junior Cup Quarter Finals where they await, with eager anticipation, to see who their next opponents will be.

Next week sees the return to league action with a top of the table clash against Randalstown, kicking off in Limavady at 2.30
