There are over 80,000 chemicals in products available on the market, most of which are not tested for their safety when used by humans. These chemicals are in beauty and household products, electronics and home building materials. Many of these are deemed as carcinogens or endocrine disrupters, which can lead to adverse health effects.
Brand loyalty is a result of great marketing campaigns with the main focus on making the company richer and no interest in your health and well-being. No one is advocating for health, to stop the inclusion of these harmful chemicals in the majority of products now available.
Sarah, realising that many products on the market today contain toxic chemicals with labels on cosmetics and body care products that can be difficult to understand, developed her own all natural and organic products.
The industry is so unregulated that it is usually impossible to trust the claims that manufacturers place on their products. A word like “natural” can be used by anyone for anything. Even “organic” can be misleading. Companies are supposed to use an organic label only if all ingredients are certified organic, but they can also say it is “made with organic” if it contains a minimum of 70 percent certified-organic ingredients. This means that the other 30 percent of the ingredients could be toxic.
The best thing consumers can do is read ingredient lists carefully in order to avoid chemicals that are known to be harmful, even though they continue to be widely used.
