The Hannath Rugby Cup Raises £7,700 for The Portadown Panthers & Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens
At the beginning of June approaching and the close of the rugby season, Hannath held its second annual Tag Rugby Cup. We were delighted to welcome back returning teams, new additions, volunteers and supporters to PRFC for Hannath’s Charity Tag Tournament and Family Fun Day 2016!
The invited teams comprised of a number of local businesses , from banks to solicitors, building contractors to food suppliers, a really good mix of the local and province wide business community, all pulling together for a family corporate day, raising funds for 2 very important local charities.
The event was a fantastic success and with the weather on our side and over 200 players taking part, there were some great matches played and a lot of fun and friendship shared throughout the day and into the night!
The group matches saw 4 pitches filled with great tag for all levels seeing, The Muffin Men (Irwins Bakery) verses Ann’s Velcro Chasers (Ann’s Homecare), Roofing Rhinos (David Jameson Roofing) up against No Nuts No Glory (Forest Feast) and Lisneys Lions ( Lisney) challenging Gallagher’s Gazelle’s( AJ Gallagher).
All culminating in a hard fought final that saw the Seagoe Socials ( Seagoe Hotel) play The Mighty MAB (Mortgage Advice Bureau) this year’s worthy victors!
The good causes that we were supporting this year, was our own, Portadown Panthers & Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens. Hannath sponsored the event allowing all proceeds from the team registration, family fun events, bucket collections and auction to go towards the final figures raised of £7,700.
We were delighted to present £5000 to the Portadown Panthers, our local Tag Rugby Club catering for boys and girls aged 6+ to young adults who have a Learning Disability. The charity is all about promoting equality, tackling poverty and social exclusion through sport!
A Further £2,700 was given to Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens. This is a charity that was very close to the heart of Charlene, our dear colleague and friend who passed away last year after losing her short battle with cancer. After the death of her baby girl Myla five years before, Charlene always wanted a kinder treatment for children in their battle against cancer. Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens is committed to raising money for research into cancers affecting children, teens and young adults. Aiming to find cures and kinder treatments for young people facing cancer.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the companies who entered teams and all of the companies that gave so generously to support the event, Irwins bakery, Linden foods, Kestral Foods, Universal Meats, Finnebrogue, Seagoe hotel, Eakin, The Yellow door, David Jameson Roofing, Kit Sports and Kukri.( with many more all highlighted in our video!)
The enthusiastic support shown by the members and staff at PRFC was amazing and made this a truly inclusive local event, and without their time and support it would never have happened! So truly a big thanks!
It was a great family event and the sense of community was very special and added so much to the day! Hannath are hoping this will be an annual event and really hope you will all join us again next year for the third Hannath Cup in June 2017!!
I have attached a link to a short video of this year’s event, giving you a flavour of all aspects of the day!
