Under 15 girls Continue Their League Campaign
Virginia under 15 girls welcomed league leaders Enniskillen to Deerpark on Sunday last and from the outset they had a score to settle having been beaten in the away fixture. They settled into the game very quickly and within the first five minutes Rachael MeEnroe went over the white line for the first try of the match, which she quickly followed by a second. Keeping it in the family her sister Aishling added a third. Just before half time Enniskillen added what was to be their only score of the match.
The second half kicked off in a similar vein and the Virginia girls never let up with Suin Smith crashing over for a well worked forwards try. Aishling added her second to the scoreboard, and Sorcha McCormack, following some great moves from the backs crossed over the try line for another. This was converted by Rachael to the cheers of all her team mates. With just a few minutes to go, Clara Corrie broke away from the opposition and added the final score of the match, a well deserved win 37-5 to Virginia. Well done girls on a performance that is now showing a young team that are coming together very well.
Under 10 Team In Boyne RFC
Determination, Respect, Teamwork. Very proud of the Virginia RFC U10 team that travelled to Boyne RFC on Sunday to play a blitz against the hosts and Skerries RFC.
Split into two teams Virginia played three epic encounters against the hosts ending in one win, a draw and a loss.
Some strong running and superb rucking resulted in three emphatic performances vs Skerries. Well done to all the kids and thanks for the sideline support from the parents.
Virginia Under 8’s V Balbriggan
Balbriggan arrived at Deerpark with a fast looking team and from the kick off they were up for it with two quick tries. Virginia took that as a wakeup call and responded with tries of their own. After a stern pep talk from coach Fergal at the end of the first quarter, normal business resumed with tries everywhere. Balbriggan weren’t going to be that easy and kept the scoreboard ticking over. Some great rucking from Conchuir and others gave Virginia more ball to play with, and resulted in tries for Mr Muscle with great support runs from other players. Another great effort from Keefa which nearly resulted in a score and Sgr. James came close but was denied by a stern Balbriggan. Super defending from Rory who hung onto anything that was wearing green and really slowed the Balbriggan attack. Ayrton and Speedy added to their season tally but both were denied a few tries by some controversial calls from the referee. All and all a good performance by everyone with a great result for the team. Many thanks to Balbriggan for travelling up and all the support on the sideline.
Under 12’s Play Their First 15 A Side Match
Well done to our under 12 boys who had their first trial 15 a side on a full pitch on Saturday last, as they begin preparations for next season. The hosted Monaghan RFC, and in a closely fought encounter took the spoils with an 8-0 win after a try from James O’Hara and a penalty from Ronan Smith. Well done to all involved and thanks to Monaghan for travelling.
