Grosvenor 2nds bow out of Crawford Cup
The 2nd XV bowed out of the Crawford Cup at the quarter-final stage but gave Junior 1 league leaders Armagh 2nds a real fright.
Grosvenor started slowly and had barely laid a hand on the ball when Armagh ran in their second try to take a 12-0 lead. However they began to take the game to Armagh and for the next twenty minutes all the play was in the Armagh half despite their considerable wind advantage. As half time loomed Grosvenor lost concentration and allowed the impressive Armagh backs to run in two further tries to take a 26-0 lead into the break.
Lesser teams might have thrown in the towel at this stage but not this young Grosvenor team who showed great character to come back with two tries from Marty in the centre and captain Jack Adams. Burkey added a penalty to make the score 26-17 with ten minutes left. Some wonderful rugby was played by both sides in the last ten minutes and following a great break out of defence by Peter Dawson, Johnny Elliot finished off a scintillating length of the field try to bring Grosvenor within two points but it was too little to late.
A cracking game of rugby played in great spirit throughout and a great advert for the Junior leagues. Best wishes to Armagh in the next round.
