“The young man knows the rules, but the old man knows the exceptions.”

Saturday May 19th 2012 Ulster’s Heineken Cup Final – Twickenham, London.
Saturday June 9th 2012 Ireland’s first summer test against New Zealand.

These are some of the most important dates in any self respecting Irish rugby fan’s calender. But all these seem to fall in the shadow of a meeting of epic proportions.

2.30pm on Saturday May 12th 2012, Magowan Park, Mallusk.

May 12th 2012, a day to go down in history, the Ophir RFC club match, Under 26’s Vs. Over 26’s. Formally known as an end to the season 11/12, informally known in some quarters as D-Day 2012.

The most important thing to remember is that the day is all about fun and having a bit of ‘craic’! But there are of course the underlaying torrents of banter and the competitive nature that flows throughout the club!

As such, this is a call to arms, to all Ophir men! Come and represent your club and in the process, maybe get a bit of leverage for Bus Banter next season!!

BBQ and all round club day!

A spokesman for the much fancied Over 26 team says:

“So the season is at an end and it comes that time again when the young cubs need to be shown how its done. They’re already starting to shout their mouths off and it’s the time for them to be shut up.
With the underage already resorting to underhand tactics in trying to get the age increased so that a few newly qualified players for the auld hands are not eligible for them. This clearly shows that they are scared already. So come this sat we the over 26s are going to show you u26s how to play the beautiful game AGAIN.”
