Even if you try to plan ahead, Father’s Day always seems to sneak up on you. Despite the fact that there is no need for a specific date to honour the extraordinary guy who is a parent, friend, and leader, many people look forward to Father’s Day. In most countries, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. The festivities pay tribute to the special role that fathers and father figures play in our lives.
Unlike Mother’s Day, Father’s Day is based on a far more modern concept. It also took a long time for them to be recognised. Father’s Day was first observed in the United States, and when the date was fixed for the third Sunday in June, the British swiftly followed suit. Father’s Day in America and the United Kingdom has several different beginnings. The first Father’s Day was observed in 1908, when 362 men were murdered in a mining accident in West Virginia, prompting a particular sermon honouring dads in a West Virginian church.
In 1909, the year after the inaugural Father’s Day in West Virginia, Sonora Smart Dodd made it her mission to establish a national Father’s Day. Dodd petitioned her local government and society to rectify the fact that while there was a Mother’s Day, there was no equivalent day for fathers. As they say, the rest is history.

Know Your Dad – Bring all of the children to one room for your Father’s Day celebration. Send all of the fathers out of the room and ask the children five questions about their fathers.
