In the final 15 minutes Ballynahinch mounted an assault on the Queen’s RFC try line with a continuous forwards driven attack going for the try under the posts and the simple conversion to win the game. Queen’s defended and defended and defended successfully and with turnover ball kicked the ball into touch to seal a famous victory. Below we have compiled special edition extended highlights of this great game. We hope you enjoy them and we salute both teams.
First played in the 1884/85 season the SNR Cup competition has remained the signature competition in SNR club rugby in the province of Ulster Rugby. The only interruption to the annual competition occurred during the 1st World War & the 2nd World War when the competition was not played.
It was played this year at the completely new Ravenhill Stadium exactly 129 years since the 1st SNR Cup was played. (wikepedia page HERE)
Having the privilege of attending this years competition final and the privilege of covering the two great clubs who participated in this years final Queen’s University Belfast RFC & Ballynahinch RFC we are very very proud to present to you our extended highlights of this years final.
The rugby played in Ulster is exciting and dynamic, it is powerful and intelligent with a skill level that has seen players represent their clubs tradition for sporting excellence with a keen eye on respect for the past and also fresh and exciting passion for playing great rugby for today and the future.
What attracted the players to the game all those years ago is probably what attracts everyone to the game now, and that is the battle that takes place. Knowing the dedication and work and thought that all the coaches and players in Ulster put into their game and the sheer genius of individual and team talent that we see in every game, it is no wonder that this game remains of the highest quality. Though our highlights may not be the of the highest spec, we hope that it gives you some feel for the very very high level of rugby that is played in this province.
We were lucky enough to have two cameras in operation on the night which has allowed us to show two angles of the scores, thats 4 tries and two penalties and also one spectacular kick to touch.
