Tag Ulster Malone Wednesday finals took place last night, infront of a busy crowd. There were 8 finals and as expected the competition was intense, tense, and very exciting. Alot of nerves in the opening exchanges made for some neck tingling moments for the supporters but the teams quickly settled into some fantastic tag.
Following from a spectacular days beach tag in Portstewart (these guys just can’t get enough!) the Wednesday night competitors put on an awesome display. Literally end to end stuff with all the skills we glimpsed over the past 9 weeks being employed and used by these teams. The girls were making superb support runs supporting other girls or boys making break away moves to leave the competition for dust and avail of the 3 points awarded to girls tries. Teams that had enjoyed good results by adopting the crowding tactics in defence found themselves in deep water as their opponents knew exactly how to deal with that, some of the kick through and chase up tries scored last night were immense, not just after the last tag either, but more particularly used as a tactic at any real opportunity.
This was a very high standard of Tag Rugby as you will see from the picture links below.
One Red card, a first for this seasons tournament, a sign of the passion and nerves and frustration of falling behind.
We tried to get as many team shots as well as action shots as we could last night and some of the looks of joy in the winners faces is brilliant to see and you will find these shots through the slideshow link to our gallery below, you can just right click on a pic during the slideshow to save it to your desktop.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening and as always you can read the official report on the links below. Intouch are delighted to announce we will be following any teams who go to the All Ireland Tag Finals at Suttonians RFC in August, full details to follow.
Congratulations to everyone making this an excellent evening.
