Strava releases “Routes” features for runners and cyclists

Personalized route suggestions, powered by the knowledge of over 50 million athletes

24th March 2020, London – Strava, the world’s largest sports community with over 50 million athletes and 1 million more joining every 30 days, today unveiled Routes, a new tool to help athletes find the best places to run and ride.

With over 3 billion activities uploaded from all over the world, Strava knows where athletes actually run and ride. Routes uses that knowledge to provide high quality route recommendations personalized to athletes’ preferences for location, distance, surface type (pavement or dirt) and hilly or flat terrain.

Terrain surface type is powered by OpenStreetMap, the world’s largest open-source map dataset, and enriched with data from the Strava community including the types of bike frames that have traveled on a given segment.

Additional features to help athletes learn the ins and outs of the route choices provided include:

Time estimates based on recent activity pace, personalized for every athlete.
Details screen showing elevation and surface changes.
Optional Heatmap overlay to see popularity on any particular section of a route.

Once athletes find a route they like, it’s simple to save it and navigate directly from the Strava app.

Download Strava for iOS and Android now, and subscribe to Strava to customize your experience and enjoy added features. For more information on Strava visit www.strava.com.

COVID19: A Novel Idea – “Pay” “Quaranteenagers,” Gen Zers and Millennials Up to $2,000 to Stay Home…

So what is CashMeInside.com and the #CashMeInside Movement?

…No, it’s not a scam. It’s a novel way to bridge (or cut) the government’s “Gordian knot” of balancing 14th amendment rights with public safety.

So, what’s the hold up? Well, the federal government. We had a conversation with the CDC, and then never got word back on a green light. So we’re asking for the media to help us cut through the “Red Tape.”

Our platform is open to “Quaranteenagers,” Gen Zers and Millennials ages 18-24. There are over 30,000,000 young people (in the US alone) in this age group and these are the most “socially mobile” and the most prolific spreaders.. These are the people infecting the elderly, immunocompromised and at-risk age groups at the highest rate and is the #1 highest-priority target group of the government. However, they can’t seem to break through to them.

Some info found at link below, but first please continue reading. Our government here in the states is not doing all that they can, even with the options laid out in front of them.

www.news9.com/story/41921443/coronavirus-cashmeinsidecom-wants-to-pay-millennials-and-gen-zers-to-stay-home

The Polish government got smart just went live with a similar project (without millennial monetization) about 8 hours ago…

mashable.com/article/poland-coronavirus-minecraft-gaming/

So far just them and…us. Us being our little think tank. The government went radio silent on us after initial calls.

At this point, I have had two calls with the CDC, who expressed interest in the merits of this project and directed me enthusiastically to the media. After my personal note here, you will find detailed information to follow.

Over 1,000 young people ages 18-24 from 34 countries have signed up through our Facebook ads (in the last 24 hours) and are waiting to participate and are practically begging us to get started with our challenges.

I put the payment gateway on hold until we got word back from government officials because I don’t want anyone to think this is a scam. I’ve never been one to shy away from controversy but this is a very sensitive issue.

It’s also a personal issue and you can quote me on this. My 19 year old sister was one of those Gen Zers who wouldn’t stop partying. Our father is 68 years old and in good health, but still well within the risk category for age group. She’s a good kid, has medical school aspirations, but I believe the younger generation hasn’t built up their prefrontal cortex enough to delay gratification. No matter how much they may love their family, parents, grandparents, or humans in general, the short term gravitational-pull of a party is too much to overcome.

It divided our house into a miniature family-feud war situation within an already stressful enough pandemic.

I’m 29, so I am considered a millennial too.

But to reiterate, I don’t want to make any money on this and would love for someone to run with what I started.

In 5th grade I played a game called FreeRice.com, which donated 50 grains of rice to fight world hunger for every simple vocabulary question you got right. Billions of grains of rice were generated and donated.

It was self-funded through ad revenue. It has since been acquired by the United Nations World Food Programme. I always thought this was the coolest thing ever and it has always been in my periphery as something I’d like to be part. This project I feel like has given me that opportunity.

Onward…

Yes, with CashMeInside.com you really CAN get paid to self-quarantine. But it requires discipline. You’ve probably heard of a side hustle. Think of this as an INside hustle.

Here’s how it works.

Have you ever tried to get healthier and lose weight, but lost motivation before reaching your goals?

Perhaps you’ve gone as far as buying a gym membership or expensive exercise equipment only for them go unused after your initial commitment.

But what if you could lose weight and make money doing it? Would that be enough motivation to stick with your exercise and diet regimen?

With CashMeInside, you can do just that, only instead of losing weight, you’ll be self-quarantining and curbing the spread of say, a pandemic like COVID-19. CashMeInside is an online platform that uses cash prizes up to $2,000 to make self-quarantining more likely to happen, and lucrative. It’s open to “Quaranteenagers,” Gen Zers and Millennials ages 18-24. There are over 30,000,000 people in this age group and these are the most “socially mobile” and the most prolific spreaders. These are the people infecting the elderly, immunocompromised and at-risk age groups at the highest rate.

How Does CashMeInside Work?

CashMeInside is easy to use, and follows a 3-step process:

1. Make Your Bet (Current max bet $20)

2. Self-Quarantine (that’s the hard part!)

3.Win Money (woohoo!)

Important Note: Minimum self-quarantine game requirement is at least 50% of standard recommended waking hours for 18-24 age group, spent at home during a 7-day period. The National Sleep Foundation recommends 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night.

For example, out of 112 “waking hours” during a 7-day period, at least 56 hours would need to be spent under self-quarantine or within very close proximity of your “Home Base” with leeway to step out for exercise, food, necessities, medical. Close enough to record yourself “checking in” at the appropriate times, but not quite far enough, or often enough to feasibly engage in an ongoing or binge-partying lifestyle.

The next step is to make your bet, self-quarantine, and get paid.

Making Your CashMeInside Bet

You’ve decided whether or not you want to place a bet. If you do, you will enter your credit card information. Since our demographic is young adults, we are in the process of integrating alternative payment options such as Cashapp, Venmo, Zelle, PayPal and even certain types of Cryptocurrencies.

Verifying Your Self-Quarantine

This is THE one point everyone is most curious about. What’s to stop people from cheating?

The way CashMeInside combats this is by requiring users to verify your initial “Home Base” before the challenge starts. (You will also do this throughout the challenge.) This is to keep young adults, the most socially-mobile, from straying too far and contributing to exponential viral spread.

This cannot be done in front of a “plain white wall,” for example, which could easily be found by anyone on the go with a little searching. Home Base must have some landmark features, such as a couch, bed, TV, dinner table, to name a few. It’s not a self-imposed prison, and it’s OK to check in periodically at other residential type backdrops, but there cannot be a pattern of this.

There is currently one way to do this, with more being developed:

Make a short check-in video and upload it securely to the CashMeInside website. To hit the weekly goal, we recommend doing this once per hour during typical daytime waking hours.

Sounds like a pain? Not really if you assume the average “quaranteen,” Gen-Zer and Millennial is on their phone around the clock and is already accustomed to making short bursts of films via Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and more.

After all, this game is played in the middle of a pandemic, epidemic, natural disaster, etc…What else is there to do?

We are in the process of developing a mobile app (iOS | Android) and one of our “referees” will be able to remotely witness your check-in.

The only equipment you need to use CashMeInside is a smartphone and a couch. There are no other requirements.

CashMeInside doesn’t track your progress through their website or app.

Finish your Challenge

Your CashMeInside challenge concludes on the appointed date given. In order to win the prize, you just need to achieve a self-quarantine check-in % above whatever the minimum requirement for that particular game is.

As mentioned earlier, your self-quarantine video series will be verified at the conclusion of the challenge. If you hit the goal, you will earn the prize.

If not, you lose the money you wagered on yourself.

The Science Behind #CashMeInside (CashMeInside.com)

Academic research at Harvard, Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pennsylvania found that:

Cash rewards can increase the effectiveness of personal health-related programs.

People are more likely to take action when their own money is at risk.

#CashMeInside relies on two scientific rules about human behavior: incentives and loss aversion. In simpler terms, the platform uses both a “carrot” and a “stick” to motivate participants.

Participants have “skin in the game” by having to wager real money on their self-quarantine success.

(Though, back to our weight-loss example, tons of people sign up for gym memberships that they never use so in a sense they are losing money as well.)

There’s something about wagering money, though, that motivates people differently.

In fact (again back to weight-loss), a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that people who have a financial incentive to lose weight are five times more like to reach their weight loss goals than people with no money at stake.

Co-founder Trent Silver says that he expects CashMeInside “success rates to vary, with between 40 percent and 50 percent of participants actually winning their bets.”

“If 100 percent of the people self-quarantined,” he added, “We would be absolutely ecstatic and lives would be saved.”

Although CashMeInside’s model seems like a gamble, it’s different because participants have complete control of the outcome. They decide if they will be disciplined enough to stay inside and self-quarantine.

How Do I Get Paid by CashMeInside?

Upon winning a challenge, you will earn CMI points, valued at one dollar each. CMI points will be added to your account by the evening of your prize announcement.

With your CMI points, you can do a few things:

Request a payout. (yes!!)

Use CMI Points to join a new challenge.

Use CMI Points to pay installments on a current challenge (this is not relevant yet in our timeline and requires emailing CashMeInside’s accounting department to set up).

CashMeInside pays challenge winners by paper check or PayPal, with Venmo, Cashapp, Zelle, and some Cryptocurrencies on the way.

There is a processing fee for a paper check of $7.00. CashMeInside does not apply a fee for PayPal payouts, but PayPal may charge a fee.

Employer Programs

CashMeInside is in the development process to make programs for companies and organizations looking to implement employee wellness programs. This can potentially help businesses decrease healthcare costs and reduce the number of sick days.

CashMeInside Challenges

CashMeInside accomplishes their mission through an offering of various individual and team challenges.

Jackpot Challenges: Available as an individual or team challenge, with Jackpot challenges your money goes into a pot. If you (or your team with the team challenge) reaches your quarantine % benchmark at the end of the challenge, you win the pot.

More challenges are in the development pipeline. Topics include bonus structures, crowdfunding and our version of angel investors, AKA “Inside” (get it?) traders.

Is CashMeInside a Scam?

Many people have questioned whether CashMeInside is an ethical platform or a scam. They are turned off by the fact that it resembles gambling. On the surface, CashMeInside seems to profit (we are not taking any profits nor do we want to) off the fact that the majority of people simply don’t stick with their goals.

There are reasons why CashMeInside is a legitimate undertaking, though. First, the founding team has been involved in the Internet marketing community since 2009, so they have longevity. They didn’t form CashMeInside to just to profit off people. In fact, any money made off lost wagers goes towards payouts for other challenges or goes entirely to the winners.

CashMeInside also plans to monetize from sponsorships and partnerships, not just money from users who fail to hit their quarantine goals.

Fun Fact: The founding team has generated over 10 billion online impressions across multiple verticals!

Is there anything similar out there? Something that might show some legal precedent?

DietBet – Following a model similar to CashMeInside, with DietBet participants can earn money for losing weight betting on themselves to lose the weight.

Walgreens Balance Rewards – This program also allows you to earn points for healthy habits like linking health apps, exercise, testing your blood pressure, tracking your sleep and more. Balance Rewards points are also earned for shopping at Walgreens and using their pharmacy.

Sweatcoin – The free Sweatcoin app pays you for walking. Technically, you get paid in the app’s “coin” currency, but those points can be redeemed for goods, experiences, and discounts through the app.

Who is the Ideal CashMeInside Participant?

CashMeInside is a program designed for people in the “quaranteen,” Gen Z, and Millennial age bracket who love their family and friends and would rather not put them at risk, but have issues self-quarantining on their own and need extra motivation.

The team challenges encourage a sense of community between participants as they try to reach self-quarantining goals together.

Is CashMeInside legal?

While CashMeInside calls their program a “bet”, it’s not really gambling since you technically have control over the outcome. Because of that, the site avoids gambling restrictions and remains legal..

Does CashMeInside really pay?

After you verify your weekly time-lapse and time-stamped self-quarantine regimen, you can choose to cash out your prize via paper check or PayPal. For our younger demographic we are working on Venmo, Cashapp and Zelle payments. There is a $7 processing fee to get a paper check issued, but PayPal payouts are free (though PayPal may charge a fee).

CashMeInside.com Summary

CashMeInside offers a unique, legitimate, and potentially motivating way to get paid for self-quarantining and protecting the public.

Upside Down Planter

Incorporating plants into your home décor is a hot trend this year. And we aren’t talking about a simple potted plant on a side table. These upside down planters are eye-catching, unexpected, and conversation starters and you can put one together in just minutes.

You’ll need:

A metal tealight candle holder, a succulent or cactus with a thin stem, a sponge, scissors, a chopstick or other long implement, wire, a drill, a smaller pilot hole metal bit, and a larger 3/8” metal bit.

First, remove the bottom surface of the candle holder. Mine has a piece of felt and a circle of cardboard. The inside is hollow.

Use the smaller drill bit to make two hanging holes near the bottom of the candle holder. Then use the larger bit to make a hole in the center of the top.

Carefully clean the dirt off of the roots of your plant.

Gently insert the roots into the hole.

Cut your sponge so it’s larger than the diameter of the candleholder then cut a slit halfway through.

Use the chopstick to push the sponge down into the candleholder. You’ll want to work it in so the slit surrounds the roots. The sponge will hold the plant in place so it doesn’t fall back through the hole. It will also absorb any extra water that might make it through the dirt.

Once the sponge is in place, fill the candleholder with enough dirt so the roots are covered and they have ample room to grow. Press down gently to pack it in.

Run the wire through the smaller holes to hang the plant.

Spritz the surface of the dirt with a little water every couple of days, depending on the type of plant you use. Since these varieties don’t need a lot of water, you won’t be adding enough to saturate the dirt and cause dripping out of the bottom.

Exercising tips and self-isolation with your furry friends

While it is uncertain times for all at the moment, for those with pets, the additional concern of making sure they are receiving the care they need during social-distancing and self-isolation is going to be on every owner’s minds.

www.petlandia.com

With National Trust Properties taking the decision to close their parks and gardens in addition to their houses, shops and cafes due to the sheer number of visitors over the weekend, dog owners will be wanting to find ways to keep their dog occupied whilst spending longer periods of time indoors.

Brain stimulation is just as important and may tire your furry friend out as much as physical exercise

So, personalized pet gift company Petlandia has compiled a list of ways you can keep your pet occupied whilst they are indoors:

You don’t need to stop walks altogether but to follow the government guidelines you should walk in quieter places and keep your distance from other people. Keeping your dog on a lead will also prevent you having to retrieve them.

Key tip: Try going for walks very early in the morning or in the evening to avoid passing lots of other people on your walk, this is especially important if you do not have a garden at home. If you have a small garden allow your furry friend to have free roam to go outside when they want. It will give them more space to explore. If you have no garden then the below tips are of even more importance.

Our furry friends love attention and it is even more important during this time to ensure they are getting enough of it, they need human contact to be emotionally sound. So, make sure to pamper your dog with lots of cuddles and strokes.

While self-isolating or working from home you can use your spare time or lunch break to have play sessions with your pooch. Play time is important as it increases the bond between you and your furry best friend and also provides fun and stimulation.

To help dogs relax during the day whilst you are either working or busy with other tasks, Spotify has recently launched ‘My Dogs’ Favourite Podcast’ which has a range of selected spoken word, sound and original music designed to encourage relaxation.

Hiding treats or toys around the house for your dog to find will keep their brains, nose and bodies active. Your four-legged friend will love playing hide and seek with their favourite toys and treats and it will be a great boredom-breaker for them.

It is a known fact that dogs love treats so try giving your pooch a long-lasting treat and use stuffable toys or feeding puzzles to keep your pet entertained.

Self-isolating or spending more time indoors gives dog owners the perfect excuse to train their furry friends. Dogs love to learn new things so try to put aside a few minutes a day to occupy your pet and tire them out with training sessions.
Useful tips:
So far studies have shown that pets do not transmit the Covid-19 Virus to humans
Try to be prepared and have at least two weeks of pet food and any medications in stock. This doesn’t mean you need to panic buy, dog food is still very much readily available.
If your pooch isn’t getting as much exercise as usual due to self-isolation ensue to reduce their food accordingly.

This also works in conjunction with understanding your VO2Max. It’s important during these times that people utilize their free time to being productive. Mental health is one of the main areas I talk about because our lives flow from that state of being. I suggest implementing activities that will exercise your creative energy, develop your personal growth, and health you cope with the pandemic.

Here’s are a list of things I am having my mentees work on while at home:
#1 Vision Boards — This gets you away from the bad news and into the good things you want to accomplish
#2 Daily Writing – Journaling is a great therapeutic way to release emotions
#3 Daily Meditation — Relax your mind. It’s easy to panic and gets scared. Be centered right now.
#4 Accomplish 1 thing you’ve wanted to do that you did not have time for; maybe writing a book, a business plan, writing poetry, or creating a song.
#5 Sleep! The body needs rest, use this time to get it!
#6 Detox! Detoxing your body and mind helps you feel rejuvenated and productive
#7 Pray — I think this world needs a little more prayer. Praying for those who have contracted the virus, the families that are affected, and our economy.

Hold On, But Don’t Hold Still:

Hope and Humor from My Seriously Flawed Life

by Kristina Kuzmic – February 11, 2020

ABOUT HOLD ON, BUT DON’T HOLD STILL

Delivering inspiration and “parenting comedy at its finest,”* here is one woman’s story of ditching her fairytale dreams and falling in love with her unpredictable, chaotic, imperfect life.

Kristina Kuzmic has made herself a household name, speaking directly to mothers from the trenches of parenthood via her viral videos and social media presence. She is now bringing her message of self-acceptance, resilience, and joy to book readers. With a refreshingly unpretentious, funny, and galvanizing voice, Kuzmic goes behind the scenes to reveal how she went from broke and defeated to unshakably grounded and brimming with thankfulness.

Illuminating the hard-won wisdom from a life always spent one step behind–whether it was as a high school student new to America, a suddenly single mother to two kids, remarried and juggling two teens and a toddler, or the unexpected recipient of Oprah’s attention and investment–Hold On, But Don’t Hold Still is the book every mother needs to reassure her that she’s not only fine just as she is, but that she already has more tools and support than she can possibly imagine. Sparkling with wit, this heartfelt memoir is like a long coffee date with a best friend, or the eleventh-hour text message that gives you just the boost you need to get through the night.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kristina Kuzmic was born in Croatia and is a world-renowned speaker known for her unique insight and humor on family-related topics. She currently lives in Southern California with her husband, where her most important, rewarding, and exhausting careers include being a sanitation engineer, chef, chauffer, and conflict-resolution guru for her three (mostly satisfied) clients–her children.

Ideas For Staying Busy @ Home – Health

A brief bio: Lisa Richards is a nutritionist and author of The Candida Diet. She has been featured on Today, US News, Women’s Health magazine, Huffington Post, Healthline, the San Francisco Chronicle, Reader’s Digest, Lifehack, Insider, and Well+Good, among others. Through her website, thecandidadiet.com, she explains the benefits of a low-sugar, anti-inflammatory diet.

Name: Lisa Richards

Website: thecandidadiet.com

“Being stuck at home either under quarantine or for work can cause us to pick up bad habits in our diet and activity. To stay busy and productive while stuck at home there are a few areas you can address and get organized to benefit your health post-quarantine.

It may be a good time to begin meal planning. Take your extra time to research healthy recipes or ingredients you’ve always wanted to try and make a plan to implement them.

If you’re able, stock your refrigerator and pantry with healthy and nutrient-dense foods. This will help you stay on track with your health and nutrition while being stuck at home. Remove any refined carbohydrate-rich snacks as they will only turn to sugar quickly causing inflammation and poor gut health. Rather than relying on processed snack foods keep whole fruits and vegetables available to keep you satisfied and fuel your body with nutrients for focus and mental clarity.

Get rid of any sodas or sugar-filled beverages. Instead opt for fruit infused waters for electrolytes and keeping yourself hydrated. This will prevent any potential sugar-crash and weight gain from empty calories.”

Babbel makes language learning free for all U.S. students

As schools and universities across the U.S. close, leading language learning app Babbel (www.babbel.com) is offering all K-12 and college students free access to its app until the end of the term (mid June 2020).
The move comes after the successful provision of free Babbel to people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy, and is designed to help students use their time at home productively and maintain cognitive activity.
With more than 76 million students enrolled in schools and colleges in the U.S. (2018 census data), nationwide closures are likely to have an adverse effect on the learning journey of many children and young adults. To mitigate against the impact of closures, Babbel is offering those affected three months access for free to its app and platform, in any and all of its 14 languages offered: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Dutch, Turkish, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Indonesian, and English.
To receive free three-month access, students (or their parents or guardian) need only apply via this link using their valid school email addresses: https://welcome.babbel.com/en/student-discount/ They will receive a coupon code for 3 free months.
The Babbel app is available on iOS, Android, and desktop.
Julie Hansen, CEO of Babbel, comments: “The number of students being affected by high school and college closures across the U.S. is increasing daily, and the education system is anticipated to be further disrupted in the coming weeks. As students are being forced to stay at home, Babbel is in a position to help right now and that is exactly what we want to do. At this time of global concern, we are reminded of the similarities we have with other people around the world, rather than that which divides us. We believe that language connects us all, and we are proud to share this philosophy with American students and provide support to them at this difficult time.”
About Babbel
Babbel is transforming language-learning for the digital age. With millions of regular users and more than 10,000 hours of language content created by experts, Babbel’s products are available worldwide across multiple platforms and support those who take joy in learning outside of work or school. Professionally designed courses are available for 14 languages via the Babbel website as well as on mobile devices, and Apple Watch, with more platforms to come. Bite-sized lessons fit into everyday life and are split into useful real-world topics, from introducing oneself to ordering food and making travel arrangements. Uniquely, every course is created specifically for each language pair by a team of language experts.

WASH YOUR CLOTHES REGULARLY AT 60 DEGREES TO KILL BACTERIA AND VIRUSES

Experts at cleaning and laundry company Dr Beckmann have advised regular washing of clothes at 60 degrees to help eliminate the spread of bacteria and viruses.

As the UK continues to self-isolate due to COVID-19, the cleaning experts say household linen, towels and underwear should all be washed at a temperature of 60°C to reduce the spread of germs.

Dr Beckmann spokeswoman Susan Fermor said: “There’s a common misconception that people should wash clothes on the hottest possible setting to kill bacteria, but it’s unnecessary. Tests have proven that washing your clothes at 60°C, with a good detergent, is perfectly adequate to kill bacteria.

“Just make sure that you check all garments are suitable to be washed at this temperature before putting them in the washing machine and take care not to ruin your clothes by boil washing.”

Experts at Dr Beckmann also recommend washing your clothes more regularly than usual – especially when you come home from work or from trips outside where you come into contact with other people.

“Most people leave clothes and household items until a pile has built up before washing. There’s also a tendency for people to wash at 40 degrees on a quick wash cycle, which we don’t recommend. Under current circumstances, we would recommend that you do 60-degree washes, more regularly, as soon as clothes have been worn,” Susan Fermor added.

Being at home we needed to think about ways to stay active.

For my little girl we have been making musical instruments using old plastic bottles and adding either dried pasta or screwed up bits of foil. You can also add water and glitter to make sensory bottles. She loves making them and then has hours of fun playing with them. We have been doing facetime playdates with her friends too. For myself as a single mum I needed to ensure I stay connected and also stay fit so my friends and I have set up a messenger group and designed a fitness challenge so ever day we are sharing our success and spurring each other on. I think now more than ever we need to keep communicating, keep connected and keep safe!

Coronavirus outdoor etiquette: Running & Walking

To stop the spread of the coronavirus, the UK prime minister has urged people to steer clear of each other when they leave their homes for one piece of daily exercise. From walking to jogging, what exactly do the new social distancing measures mean when getting in our daily exercise?

· Social distancing means leaving at least 2 meters space between people, which means avoiding busy places like popular parks, beauty spots and beaches

· If you do end up touching gates or fences whilst out walking or running, clean your hands with anti-bac and wash with soap as soon as possible

· Runners should also keep their distance and avoid overtaking closely

· According to Amy Treakle, an infection disease specialist with the Polyclinic in Seattle, the risk of transmission by running past someone for a few seconds in an outdoor space, however, is tiny

Bored at Home? Print, Build, and Play Board Game ‘INKAS: The Legend’ for Free

INKAS: The Legend, a new print and play board game promoting the Andean culture, offers hours of fun during this difficult time.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 20, 2020 – Millions of people around the world are practicing self-isolation and social distancing to keep safe during the coronavirus pandemic. To pass the time and keep boredom at bay, board games can be a great solution to keep the spirits up during this difficult time.

But what if you can’t go out and buy a new board game to play with your family? One great option is to download a “Print & Play” game. There are hundreds of free and paid print and play games on the web. All you need is a printer, scissors, and you are good to go.

Print & Play games are not published in a physical form. Instead, all the components are available in a digital format and are available for download. Players are expected to print all the pieces, cut them up, and build the game.

Building the game is part of the fun and there are companies that provide custom pieces such as tokens, cards, and specialty paper to help players build even better print & play games.

Pers today is pleased to announce that they are also entering the Print & Play market with the launch of “INKAS: The Legend”, a free board game based on the legendary history and mythology of the Inka Empire.

INKAS: The Legend is a strategy game for 2 to 4 players that transports them to a mystical time of spirits, monsters and dragons, where they must battle gods and enemy nations in their quest to be the first to find the magical place where the city of Cusco must be founded. Whoever founds Cusco will have dominion over the Tawantinsuyu: the four regions of the Inka Empire.

Inspired by the creationist myth of the Ayar siblings, this game brings focus to the descendants of the inhabitants of ancient Peru and the Americas. Pers’s goal is for this game, and the stories based on the characters from INKAS: The Legend, to offer an additional source of pride for people of Andean descent, especially to kids longing for “superheroes” based on their culture.

To stay in line with the objectives of INKAS: The Legend, the names of the characters and provinces present in the game are written in Quechua, the language of the Inkas which is still spoken by 10 million people in areas of Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Chile.

Quechua is an endangered language and UNESCO fears that, unless something is done about it, Quechua will become extinct within 30 years. With INKAS: The Legend we hope to bring some awareness to this language and help with its survival.

The Print & Play version of INKAS: The Legend is now available for free on http://bit.ly/inkasdownload and in mid-2020 Pers will launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund a packaged version of this game with Inka warrior miniatures.

Cooking Through Corona – a Facebook Commnity

Want to share an inspiring online community that ShelterBoxUSA has built over the last two weeks called, COOKING THROUGH CORONA. While its humanitarian work continues throughout the world during COVID-19, on March 13th president Kerri Murray and her team took the initiative to quickly develop and curate an online community called – Cooking Through Corona – as a mechanism to stay connected and to bring comfort to people who are home bound during COVID. The work with families on the frontlines of crisis was the catalyst for creating this online community. So often in disaster zones, people state the cooking equipment ShelterBox provides and the comfort of cooking and sharing a hot me al together, cuts through the chaos, brings routine and a sense of normalcy during uncertain times. Food brings people together. Kerri is available to do live online interviews this week while she is cooking.

Little did we know how quickly it would take off, nor the positive ways it would bring comfort and connection to people when they really need it most. Not only do we have people from around the world engaging in our Facebook live cooking sessions, we have many people sharing stories of how they are cooking and providing meals for healthcare workers, and creating routines and connecting with their families over food. Recipes include: Solitude Soup, The Quarantini, Shelter-at-Home Sushi, Social Distancing Scones, Isolation Chili, and more. We have also created a Pandemic Playlist that to bring some tunes and help fight the blues.

In less than two weeks, we have built an active global online community, with members from around the U.S., Europe, Africa, Asia, and A ustralia. Our active community is growing every day. We have guest chefs from all walks of life contributing to community. Check out our online videos on the facebook page.

Retailers Being Creative and Working Virtually in Light of Coronavirus.

▪ RETAILERS TURNING TO TECHNOLOGY TO DIVERSIFY AMID CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK

Technology such as that from Virtual Worlds is helping retailers stay in touch with their customers and keep the design process going when face to face meetings are not possible.

There can be no denying that the impact of the coronavirus pandemic has been huge for the retail sector, yet as shops close to encourage social distancing, retailers have been coming up with innovative ways to carry on with business.

As the nation adjusts to a way of life where staying in is the new going out for many of us, the UK is witnessing something of a DIY boom. Homeowners are turning their attention to home improvement tasks that they may not normally have time for, particularly in the kitchen and bathroom.

In an effort to support this DIY effort, retailers are turning to technology so that they can continue to support their customers while following social distancing guidelines and avoiding face to face contact. Some kitchen and bathroom retailers, for example, are using Virtual Worlds software to carry out virtual design consultations.

“Just as estate agents are now offering virtual staging while physical property viewings are not possible, so designers can embrace the latest 3D and 4D design software to involve customers in the planning process of their new bathroom and kitchen,” explains Virtual Worlds Managing Director Nathan Maclean.

“While helping retailers to balance their books during a time of uncertainty, this innovative use of technology enables retailers to book installation appointments for a few weeks’ time or to give guidance remotely on how to fit the products as a DIY project.”

Beating Gym Boredom in 2020: The rugby player’s guide

By Nick Hewett, Health and Fitness Tutor at The Training Room and ex-rugby fullback

It’s early morning, dark, cold and everyone else is snuggled up in bed. You scrape the ice off the car and make your way to the local gym, walk through the door and you are greeted by a hyperactive gym bunny who has far too much energy for this time of the morning!

You look around and see lots of heavy things to pick up and put down, machines that will help you move… but, unfortunately, not a rugby ball in sight!

With any athlete, the game is the key; that’s the part we enjoy, the part we strive to become better at, and the part that gives us a thrill when we win.

So, how can we make gym training as awesome as the game itself? The trick is to bring the skills and movements from the pitch to the gym. Not only will this help to motivate you but doing sports-specific movements in the gym will also enable you to become stronger, quicker and more powerful – leading to better match performance.

Plyometrics – Plyometrics is a great way to help increase power. You would have seen the stackable boxes in the gym that people jump on; these are fantastic ways to build and demonstrate power. Introduce this with your strength-based training by using Complex Sets. Complex Sets include one heavy exercise for no more than five reps working at near maximal effort, then, straight on to the plyometric exercise. For example, leg press to box jumps or bench press to clap push-ups.

Play with balls! – It can sometimes feel tedious just pounding away on a treadmill. To beat the boredom, head into the gym with a rugby ball, make your way to the studio, throw the ball at the wall, see where it bounces, then run, scoop and throw! It’s a great little workout and after five minutes, you’ll be blowing!

Olympic lifts – These are great but very technical. When we refer to Olympic lifts, we are really talking about moving weight at speed; this can also refer to sledge pushes and pulls – fantastic for building leg speed and power. Stay nice and low, as you would in the scrum or tackling, and drive through the legs to push that weight across the gym!

Tag a teammate! – This one is great fun and shattering! Face your teammate (gym buddy), look them in the eye with an intense glare, then, as soon as the timer goes off, the aim is to try and touch your opponent’s knees without them touching yours! If there’s a few of you, try it for 30 seconds and then switch partners. Flip it to a core-based exercise by starting in a press-up position and trying to tag each other’s shoulders.

Get competitive! – As rugby players, competition is usually one of the key factors that drives us, so why not replicate this in the gym to give you that extra motivation? Whether it’s setting yourself challenges or competing against a friend, there’s always a way to add competition to your training. Why not see if your gym has any leader boards and then try to make it to the top?

If it’s workout inspiration you’re looking for in 2020, hopefully, you’ve found it! Give these training methods a go in your next gym sessions and, with a bit of luck, you’ll be the one bounding through the doors, full of energy and ready to try some fun and rewarding rugby-based skills!

The “right fit” refers to the piece size and piece count (24 – 200 pieces). Each Right Fit Puzzle completes to the same finished size (14″ x 19″) but the size and the number of pieces changes according to age and/or skill level.

“Puzzles can be a great learning tool for children in critical thinking and hand-eye coordination, but if they aren’t the right level of challenge for the child’s age, it can be frustrating instead of fun. We’ve freed consumers from the guesswork when picking out a puzzle for kids,” Rolls explained.
