Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 will be more accessible and engage more fans around the world than ever before after the International Rugby Board announced that it will stream the tournament live from Moscow.

The world’s best Sevens players representing 24 men’s and 16 women’s nations will play 100 matches on two pitches across the three-day tournament, with all of the men’s and women’s action on the main Luzhniki Stadium pitch being streamed live online.

In addition to a record broadcast platform, fans can keep up to date with all the latest from Moscow via the IRB’s free and live streaming service at the official website www.rwcsevens.com. It is the first time that the IRB has offered free extensive live coverage of its premier Sevens event in a strategy to take the sport to new audiences around the world, although geo-blocking will be in effect in certain territories.

The Moscow tournament will be the final Rugby World Cup Sevens before Rugby returns to the Olympic Games stage at Rio 2016, with the next RWC Sevens tournament scheduled for 2018.

Rugby World Cup Limited Chairman Bernard Lapasset said: “Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 has reached out to break new frontiers in coming to Moscow and we will be doing the same through our extensive streaming and social media platform to enable the sport to reach as many new fans as possible as Sevens gears up to our Olympic Games debut in Rio.”

“With a full statistical and results service, experts on hand to answer questions and interaction with the broadcast world feed commentators, fans will be able to engage with men’s and women’s Sevens like never before.”
