In 2006 three individuals, Sean Doonan, Seamus Owens and Frank Murphy came together and decided to form a company to specialise in the Health & Safety, Project and General Management fields for small to medium sized manufacturing companies who might not have such a resource in-house. A company, Erne Management Ltd, was formed and incorporated in August 2006 and operated out of office premises at Kinawley Enterprise Park.
The three partners had a mixture of backgrounds which included Industrial Chemistry, Plant Hire, Concrete Products Manufacture, Quarry Management, Health & Safety Management, General Management etc. The mixture of skills and back grounds of the three partners left that there was not much in the manufacturing/health & safety field that could not be tackled.
In the early years some good, high profile, contracts were carried out for companies such as Kingspan, Barleystone, Quinn Group etc. However with the economic downturn which hit manufacturing companies very hard these types of contracts were no longer available. Erne Management Ltd decided to expand its Health & Safety arm by supplying Traffic Management Products such as cones, barriers and temporary road works signs. The equipment required to print traffic signs was the same as that needed to make general signage so it was decided to investigate that market.
Ernco-Group Ltd
In 2009 we commenced the manufacture, sale & erection of all types of general signage from our new 7000 sq ft office and manufacturing premises at Derrylin Enterprise Park. This additional venture took us into a diverse market and we successfully completed signage projects over the whole of Ireland. Whilst still carrying on our Health & Safety management function the main focus of our company had shifted to the manufacture of signage products and the distribution of traffic management products. Therefore it was felt that our original company name no longer reflects what we do and could even be causing confusion. We made a decision to change the trading name of our company with the view to having a name that gave some indication of what we did or at least did not cause confusion. With the guidance of Invest NI and after a lot of work and the assistance of a very reputable marketing/branding company we came up with a new name for ourselves, Ernco. This name we feel has echoes of both our past company name and our geographical location, something we take pride in. As and from the 1st of April 2015 we will be called Ernco-Group with sub-headings like Ernco-Safety, Ernco-Traffic and Ernco-Signage to give definition to the areas we are involved in. Should we diversify further we feel that our new name and branding will allow for this in that it is in no way restrictive.
