Last week Enniskillen Rugby club, often praised for their extensive mini rugby section, hosted an Ulster Rugby Centra Summer camp at Mullaghmeen running from 20th – 24th July. Around 100 children aged between 6 and 12 from all parts of the county attended. The course was so over-subscribed that Ulster Rugby had to ask for volunteer coaches from ERFC to assist. For many of those in attendance the Summer camp is a highlight of the school summer holidays but it is also an opportunity for many to try rugby for the first time. There was great excitement for the visit of three Ulster Rugby players on Wednesday 22nd July; Prop Andy Warwick, Hooker Paul Jackson and Scrum half Paul Marshall took time from their pre-season training to visit Enniskillen. They signed autographs and answered questions, played some Touch rugby with the 6 and 7 year olds, and presented 11 year old Dara Love with a special skills award. Mark Howe, Enniskillen RFC mini convenor said ‘We are very pleased to have been selected by Ulster Rugby to host another Summer camp. The Ulster branch are extremely supportive of grassroots rugby in the west and it was great for the kids who participated in the Camp to have had the opportunity to meet and interact with the Ulster players. I’d like to thank Darren McGuigan and his team from Ulster Rugby and also our own Enniskillen coaches who gave up their time this week to help make it a week to remember for the boys and girls who attended’. The week was an excellent showcase for mini rugby at ERFC and the club would like to welcome all new players, male and female, to join the mini rugby section of the club and experience the sport; training is set to begin early September with details to follow in the coming weeks.
