ENGLISH RUGBY CLUBS UNWITTINGLY WASTING OVER £4M IN ENERGY BILLS
A study by leading energy consultants Utility Aid has found that English rugby clubs are unknowingly over-spending by more than £4 million on their energy bills every year.
The research found that clubs on average could save themselves £1,410 off their annual energy bills, while some clubs were needlessly overspending by as much as £28,000 per year on their bills.
With energy prices set to rise by up to 10% across the industry, the amount being unnecessarily spent is set to rise significantly further over the winter.
Farnham Common Sports Club was one of the clubs covered in the study by Utility Aid, and having taken part in a free and no obligation audit the club made a saving of £3,946, funds which can now be put to good use elsewhere in the club.
David Hancock, a representative for the club said, “The savings we have made are exceptional and the money saved will be used to support grass roots rugby.”
Utility Aid is dedicated to helping charities, social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations such as sports clubs save money on their bills, reduce their carbon footprint and avoid the risk of being exposed to further price rises by reducing energy dependency.
Giles Hankinson, CEO of Utility Aid said, “It’s staggering just how much money the clubs are wasting, but it’s not just the world of rugby that is being hit by unnecessarily high bills. We see this across all sectors we work with.
“There’s a whole range of reasons why clubs and organisations are needlessly overspending such as being on the wrong tariff, having an inefficient carbon footprint and being incorrectly charged by inaccurate bills.
“What we aim to do is take all the confusion and complexity out of managing utilities. We give our clients complete peace of mind that they are on the right tariff, that their invoices are accurate and they are being energy efficient.”
