ENGLANDS FASTEST MAN MEETS WORLD’S FASTEST DOGS

England and Gloucester winger Jonny May took a break from training to put two Greyhounds through their paces at Dogs Trust Evesham when he took them for a walk this week. The speedy ex-racing Greyhounds named Jonny and May are hoping the meeting with their namesake will help ‘wing’ them loving new homes. He may be one of England’s fastest players, but he is still no match for the speedy pair who can cover 100m in well under 5 seconds – less than half Jonny’s time. Dog lover Jonny was taken on a tour of the rehoming centre where he learnt about the work of Dogs Trust and met hundreds of homeless hounds looking for home including the Greyhounds and two Terriers who he took time out to play with.

Jonny May explains” As a huge dog lover, it’s hard to believe how so many dogs can end up unwanted by their owners. I take my Rottweiler, Nala, everywhere with me and she is a big part of my life. I have met so many fantastic dogs at the centre, especially Jonny and May and I really hope they find the happy homes they deserve soon.”

Emma Bragginton, Dogs Trust Evesham Assistant Manager, explains “We were delighted to welcome Jonny to meet our homeless hounds. He was a huge hit with all the dogs and fortunately both Jonny and May are very well behaved but if they didn’t come back to their names at least Jonny would be more likely to catch them than I would.”

Emma adds “ Though our Greyhounds are, of course, very fast we are keen to dispel the myth that Greyhounds need lots of exercise – the complete opposite is true! Greyhounds are actually quite lazy creatures and will need only a couple of short walks a day. Dogs Trust take in hundreds of ex racing Greyhounds every year and they make affectionate, fun – loving family members. People are also often put off by their size but breeds like these are very gentle, hugely sociable and appreciative of human affection. Just like Jonny and May they are also generally excellent with children and make super, loving pets in the right homes.

If you think you’d like to rehome Jonny or May please give our rehoming centre a call on 0300 303 0292.
