ENGLAND CAPTAIN RETURNS TO HIS FIRST RUGBY CLUB

Chris Robshaw launches QBE My Coach, a nationwide coaching competition

QBE, the business insurance specialist, took Chris Robshaw, his current Harlequins coach Conor O’Shea and his formative school coach Steve Shortland to meet coaches from his first rugby club, Warlingham RFC.

The visit was organised by QBE Insurance, the official insurance partner of England Rugby to launch QBE My Coach – a national competition that looks to reward coaches who have inspired and supported the success of amateur and professional players alike. Winners of the competition will receive a coaching session from a legendary rugby personality at their club as well as a place on the QBE Coaching Club, to become a Level 2 qualified coach.

Whilst reminiscing about his time at the club, Robshaw had the opportunity to reflect on where his career began and the impact his coaches had in the development of his career. Robshaw said “Being with my old coaches today has reminded me about those people who have supported my success from such a young age. It’s highlighted the effect a great community coach can have in a player’s success from grassroots level up to the elite game.” He added “if it wasn’t for the likes of Steve Shortland and the other community coaches that have helped me along the way, I wouldn’t be the player that I am today.”

After taking a training session for current members of the club, Robshaw added “I would urge rugby clubs across the country to enter their inspirational coaches in the QBE My Coach competition. It is great to see a company such as QBE Insurance support and recognise the impact that coaches can have in sustaining and developing participation in rugby.”

Chris Robshaw is the official ambassador of QBE, the business insurance specialist. To make a nomination in QBE My Coach head to QBErugby.com.
