Eels RLFC Prepare for New League Season
With the new league season starting in May, the Antrim Eels will be starting pre season training, this Wednesday 1st April, at Randalstown Rugby club from 1930-2100. This year the league has expanded to 5 five teams with the inclusion of Portadown and Holywood and old rivalries renewed with Belfast Met and current champions Ballynahinch Rabbitohs. Eels founder, Pascal Mulot said “I’m hoping more boys come to training this year so we can improve on results last season, which weren’t great, but the performances were all things considered. We only made small errors at crucial times in the games we played and were punished for them. If we can build on those performances, cut out the errors, we could do well this year.”
Also there is the opportunity to play for Northern Ireland and Ireland at all levels, U19’s , Students and Senior teams up for grabs. Ireland propose to play 3 internationals in August with all home grown, domestic players so if the Eels do well in the league there could be the real chance of Eels players making this grade. The Students 4 nations is being hosted in Ireland and the State of Origin games between NI and ROI at U19s and seniors will again be held. There will also be an U19’s European Championship held later this year. So these really are exciting times for anyone interested in Rugby League.
