Limavady 3rds 27 Donegal Town 2nds 24
Donegal 2nds took to the road on a lovely day to Limavady and came away empty handed in what was a real exciting game of rugby. Limavady were a big and organised team who finished runners up last year and they started the strongest and put Donegal on the back foot and soon had a penalty in Donegals 22 which they converted to lead after 4min 3-0.. The next 20 mins it was a real battle between to good sets of forwards with both teams making good ground with the ball but it was Limavady who got the first try of the game when driving over the line to go 8-0 up after 25min. After the last 2 defeats it would have been easy for Donegal to let their heads go down but not this time because Donegal came straight back at Limavady and with Hugh Morrow converting a penalty Donegal got their first try after good work from the forwards to suck in limavady defence and with some quick hands winger Adrian Heraty scored in the corner which Hugh convered to take Donegal into the lead 8-10 after 33min.. Donegal now were playing nice rugby but got hit with 2 suckerpunches when Limavady scored 2 tries before half time to leave the score 20-10
Donegal though started the 2nd half the stronger and after just 2 mintues Daniel Gildea battered he way over the line after a lovely pass from Hugh Morrow and he coverted to make the score 20-17.. The rest of the half was a real credit 2 both teams who always looked 2 play rugby and it was a real end to end game but it was Limavady who scored next with some nice play between their backs, and were able 2 score under the posts and strech their lead to 27-17 with 15 min left. Donegal werent done yet and scored with 10 min to go with Daniel Gildea battering his way again to the try line after some good team work to close the gap to 3pts again but try as they might they couldnt get on the score sheet again to allow Limavady to take the spoils with the full time score 27-24..
Donegal though should take heart from there best performance so far this year with a real team effort on the day.. Daniel Gildea got man of the match with his 2 tries the highlight of a good game from him but the guys know there is areas to work on.. Training continues on a Tuesday and Friday at 6.45pm.. All new comers are welcome.
