Dermie Moffett

It was with great sadness that the Club learned last week of the sudden passing of Dermond (Dermie) Moffett. Dermie left school at 16 in 1963 and immediately joined Donaghadee where he instantly established himself on the First XV at that tender age as an extremely skilful, robust and hard tackling centre – by no means would anyone have called him tender on the field of play. Although courted on many occasions by various senior clubs Dermie remained faithful to the Dee captaining the Club in seasons 1975/76 and 1976/77 and, after his playing days came to an end, he held many offices in the Club before becoming Chairman in season 1984/85. Soon afterwards Dermie and his family moved to England but remained a great friend to the Club which he visited whenever the opportunity arose renewing old friendships and making new ones. The Council, players and members of Donaghadee RFC pass on their sympathies to his wife Sylvia, his three daughters Pauline, Lesley and Christine, his sister Sharman and the wider family circle.

This week

The 3rd XV join the 1st XV on a Saturday off this week but the 2nd XV renew their league campaign with a visit to Shaws Bridge where Instonians III provide the opposition with a 2:30pm kick-off. Captain Kyle Morrow and his team mates would appreciate all support that can be mustered.
