THIS WEEK
After no Donaghadee teams having any games last weekend the Club look forward to this Saturday when the 1st XV get back into action with a visit to Shaws Bridge for the return Kukri Qualifying One league game against Cooke. The Dee won the season’s first encounter at Donaldson Park back in September by a 26-18 margin but will need to pull all the stops out to repeat that victory against an ever improving Cooke outfit. With the Dee having a bye in last Saturday’s Towns Cup First Round Cooke defeated high flying Qualifying Two side Academy reasonably comfortably at Roughfort in the First Round of the McCrea Cup and so will be on a roll for this weekend’s tussle. The game kicks off at 2:30pm and with the 2nd & 3rd XVs having no games this weekend all support will be greatly appreciated in Belfast.

NIGHT AT THE RACES
Donaghadee RFC are hosting a fundraising event on Saturday 22nd March 2014 in aid of Club funds. The event is taking place at La Mon Hotel & Country Club in the format of “A Night of The Races”.
In these harsh economic times running a rugby club is a challenging endeavour and it is hoped that this event can go some way to offering the Club additional stability at a time when the senior side is enjoying one of its finest periods on the pitch in many years – the 1st XV enjoying its third season in Kukri Qualifying One, having qualified for the prestigious Ulster Bank All Ireland Junior Cup for the past two seasons, in addition to having won the Millar McCall Wylie Junior Cup in 2011.
This event will also act as an ideal opportunity for members and friends of Donaghadee RFC to have a great night in the recently refurbished La Mon Hotel &Country Club. The Club has not had the opportunity to enjoy an event of this scale since the 125th Anniversary celebrations.
There are a number of different ways to support the event and the Club would be delighted if you were able to take up one of the options below:
1. Table of ten (including dinner) – £250
2. Seat at the event (including dinner) – £25
3. Purchase a horse for the event – £20
• there are 8 horses per race and 8 races in total;
• the winner of each race will win a premium bottle of champagne; and
• All race winners will be entered in a draw for a £150 cash prize.
The Club have been delighted with the early response to this event and with only eleven weeks to go would ask anyone interested in coming along, or showing your support by ‘buying’ a horse, to email drfcnight-at-the-races@hotmail.co.uk or ring Chris Good on 07773323184.
Don’t worry if you are not a big horse racing fan – this is a reasonably small element of the evening -with a great DJ in store for lots of dancing and some fantastic auction prizes up for grabs.
La Mon have keenly priced accommodation available for those attending this event and there will be a bus undertaking a return journey from Donaldson Park on the night – though there will be limited availability.
This night is in aid of a great cause and one for which the Cub would very much appreciate the support of its members and friends through the Ulster Rugby community and beyond.
