Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 30th November 2024.
On Monday 25th November the draw for the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup took place.
The results of this draw are as follows.

These Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup Round 2 fixtures MUST be played on/before Saturday 7th December 2024.
Later that evening. Larne Grammar School played the Ulster Clubs’ U18 team at the Meadowbank Stadium in Magherafelt.
This game proved to be an exciting high-scoring encounter which, with the last play of the game, the Ulster Clubs’ U18 team won by 33-31.
The Ulster Clubs’ scores came through tries from Dylan Byrne, Dungannon FC, Charlie Brown, Ballynahinch RFC, Tyrese Dunlop, Ballymena RFC, Luke Graham, Bangor RFC and James Hamilton, City of Armagh FC. Milo Stafford, an U17 player from Virginia RFC, was the hero of the hour for the Ulster U18 Clubs’ team with four successful conversions, including his fourth, and final, conversion which was the final kick of the game to secure the 33-31 victory.
The Larne Grammar School team, on the back of a great performance from Jonny Dallas, scored five tries as well. Thomas Patton, Ethan Duncan and Ryan McDowell, with a hattrick, scored the tries to which Ethan added three successful conversion kicks.
At the same venue, a Dromore High School U16/17 team provided the opposition for the Ulster Clubs’ U17 team in a game which the Dromore High School team won by 21-14.
The Ulster U17 Clubs’ points came from one try each from Charlie Willis, Ballynahinch RFC, and Jacob Ennis McManus, Rainey RFC. Joshua Woods, Ballynahinch RFC, and Conor Frazer, Malone RFC, each added the extras to one try.
The Dromore High School team scored their points through tries from Robert Russell, who touched down twice, and Alfie Clarke. Alfie had a fine game off the tee with three successful conversion kicks.
On Tuesday 26th November, Banbridge Academy hosted Omagh Academy in the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield.
The final score in this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Round 2 game was Banbridge Academy 7 Omagh Academy 24.
On Wednesday 27th October, Ballymena Academy played Belfast Royal Academy is their previously postponed 1stxv friendly game.
The final scoreboard at the end of this hard-fought encounter read Ballymena Academy 7 Belfast Royal Academy 20.
Ballymena Academy scored one try through Harry Lamont which was converted by Reuben Allen.
The Belfast Royal Academy team scored two tries through James Murray and Hadwyn Hughes with Connor McVicker adding the extras to both tries as well as kicking two penalty goals.
At the same time, Royal Belfast Academical Institution played Campbell College, Belfast in a game the Royal Belfast Institution team won by 27-20.
The Royal Belfast Academical Institution team scored four tries with George Craigan touching down twice and Ben McCausland and James Kerr scoring one try apiece. Charlie O’Connor was successful with two conversions as well as one penalty kick.
The Campbell College, Belfast points came through tries from Russ Lovo, Isaac Hatch and Dante Noel Simmons. Isaac converted one try as well as kicking one penalty goal.
On the same afternoon, six Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup 2nd Round games took place.
Banbridge Academy played Ballyclare High School in a game the Ballyclare High School team won by 48-7.
Bangor Grammar School played Royal School, Dungannon in a closely contested game the Bangor Grammar School team won by 17-12.
Coleraine Grammar School played Antrim Grammar School and won the game by 22-14.
Down High School played Regent House School in a high scoring encounter the Regent House School team won by 29-21.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played Portadown College and recorded a 31-10 victory.
Foyle and Londonderry College played Dromore High School in a game the Foyle College team won by 55-14.
On Thursday 28th November, Antrim Grammar School played Bangor Academy in the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield.
The Antrim Grammar School team won this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 2nd Round game by 40-0.
On Friday 29th November, City of Derry RFC was the venue when Carndonagh Community School hosted the Ballyclare High School 3rdxv in their recently twice postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup Round 1 game.
The final score in this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv game was Carndonagh Community School 3 Ballyclare High School 3rdxv 15.
Both teams, their coaches and supporters, would like to thank City of Derry RFC for the provision of facilities and hosting the game.
Dalriada School 2ndxv hosted Rainey Endowed School 2ndxv in their Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup Round 2 game.
The final score in this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup Round 2 game was Dalriada School 5 Rainey Endowed School 2ndxv 31.
Also on Friday 29th November, Ballymoney RFC was the venue when Dalriada School played Ballyclare High School.
The Dalriada School team won this game by 28-7 scoring four tries in the process.
Ballyclare High School started the game strongly and took an early 7-0 lead when Jack Thompson touched down for a try which was converted by James Woodside.
The Dalriada School team responded with two first half tries from Matthew Fox and Angus Graham, both of which were converted by Alfie Millar, to see the Dalriada School team into a 14-7 lead at the interval.
The second half saw the Dalriada School team score two more tries. Isaac Moore outwitted the Ballyclare High School defence twice before touching down for two tries. Two more Alfie Millar conversions secured the 28-7 victory for the Dalriada School team.

On Saturday 30th November, Omagh Academy 2ndxv played Friends’ School, Lisburn 2ndxv in their previously postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup Round 2 game.
At the end of this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup Round 2 game the scoreboard read Omagh Academy 2ndxv 8 Friends’ School, Lisburn 2ndxv 12.
In the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield, the remaining four games took place.
Belfast High School played Cambridge House Grammar School in a closely contested game the Cambridge House School team won by 13-12.
Dromore High School played Foyle and Londonderry College in another close encounter the Foyle College team won by 28-25.
Limavady Grammar School played Royal School, Armagh in a game the Royal School, Armagh team won by 20-7.
Portadown College played Regent House School in a game the Regent House School team won by 34-0.
At 1stxv level, quite a few games took place on Saturday 30th November.
Belfast Royal Academy played Regent House School in a game which finished as an honourable 17-17 draw.
The Belfast Royal Academy points came through two tries from Max McKittrick, one try from Hadwyn Hughes and one successful conversion from Connor McVicker.
The Regent House School team scored three tries through Matthew Callaghan, Lewis Robinson and Taylor Swaffield with Josh Colville adding one successful conversion kick.
Cambridge House Grammar School played Dromore High School and recorded a 31-15 victory.
Hero of the Day for the Cambridge House Grammar School team was Justin Mark who contributed a total of 21 points with a hattrick of tries and conversions. The remaining Cambridge House Grammar School points came through tries from Sam Preston and Alex Murphy.
The Dromore High School team contributed a lot to the flow and pace of the game. They got some reward for their efforts with unconverted tries from AJ Morton, Daniel Ennis-McMannus and Stanley Brimage.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played Antrim Grammar School and recorded a 36-0 victory.
The Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team scored six tries through Thomas Barnett, Sam Paton, Shane Hoy, Robbie McIlwrath, Josh Owens and Toby Newman. Sam Paton was also successful with three of his conversion kicks.
For the Antrim Grammar School team players such as Jonah Woolley, Rhys McGrandles and Alex Miss impressed with their performances.
Larne Grammar School played Belfast High School and won the game by 45-5.
Ryan McDowell, Matthew Crawford, Nicky Robinson and Thomas Patton were the Larne Grammar School try scorers with Ethan Duncan adding the remaining points off the tee.
The Belfast High School points came through an unconverted try from Harry Palmer.
Omagh Academy played Friends’ School, Lisburn in a game the Friends’ School, Lisburn team won by 19-13.
The Omagh Academy team scored their points with a try from Eoin McCusker alongside one conversion and two penalty kicks from Sam Harper.
The Friends’ School, Lisburn team had to overcome a 10-0 deficit at the break.
Ryley Murphy, Gethin Mageean and Ross Glover each scored one second half try to which Ross added two successful conversion kicks.
Portadown College played Down High School and won this close encounter by 19-17.
Callum Doak, Harvey Creaney and Sammy Walsh scored the Portadown College tries to which Danny Guy added two successful conversions.
Ethan Whyte, Lewis Connolly and Josh Herron scored the Down High School tries to which Josh McCaughey added one successful conversion.
Royal School, Dungannon played Coleraine Grammar School and made the Coleraine Grammar School team work hard for a 21-5 victory.
The Royal School, Dungannon team worked hard throughout the game and got some reward for their endeavours when Reuben Gallagher touched down for an unconverted try.
The Coleraine Grammar School team ran in for three tries with their captain, Joel Madden, leading by example and scoring a brace. The third Coleraine Grammar School try came from Callum Jackson. Joshua Hawe had a fine game off the tee with three successful conversion kicks.
Sullivan Upper School played Campbell College, Belfast in a game that saw the Campbell College, Belfast record a 31-7 victory.
The Sullivan Upper School points came through a try and conversion from the impressive Hamish Johnston.
The Campbell College, Belfast points came through tries from Jed Dornan, Paul Henry, Ollie Park and Isaac Hatch. Isaac added four successful conversion kicks as well as one penalty goal.
Wallace High School played Methodist College, Belfast in a game which drew along a large group of enthusiastic supporters.
The Wallace High School team recorded a comfortable 45-5 victory in the course of this game.
Michael McCavery, Jon Rodgers, Sam Warwick, Josh Booth, Rio McDonagh and Daniel Wilson were the Wallace High School try scorers with Josh Geddis adding the remaining Wallace High School points off his trusty boot.
Joe Thompson scored the unconverted try for the Methodist College, Belfast team.
In the course of the week all the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield, 3rdxv and 2ndxv Cup games, alongside quite a few of the friendly games played, were refereed by members of the USRFR. All the teams involved were delighted to have the USRFR referees along to referee their games.
