Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 22nd February 2025.
There was one Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Subsidiary Shield previously postponed 1/4 Final game played on Monday 10th February when Dalriada School played Down High School.
The Dalriada School team won the game by 24-12, scoring four tries in the process.
Noah McMullen, Ben Kirk, Thomas Condell and Marcus Forgrave scored the tries with Alfie Millar adding two successful conversion kicks.
Bailey Parker and Jacob Bradshaw scored the Down High School tries to which Josh McCaughey added one successful conversion.
The Dalriada School team will now play Campbell College, Belfast in the 1/2 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Shield on/before Saturday 22nd February.
Despite being on the half term break, Methodist College, Belfast and Ballyclare High School played out a joint training session at Pirrie Park on Saturday 15th February.
Wednesday 19th February saw the first two of five Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ finals take place.
Wallace High School was the venue when Royal School, Armagh and Ballyclare High School played in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate final.
The Royal School, Armagh team won this exciting game by 28-18.
After the final whistle, Paul Hart, Senior Vice-President of the Ulster Branch, Irish Rugby Football Union, congratulated both teams, as well as their coaches, on reaching the final, thanked the parents/guardians of all the players for their support given to the players throughout the season, thanked the referee, Mark Orr, for the way in which he controlled the game, thanked Wallace High School, and especially Neil Hinds, for the use of facilities and hosting the game and thanked the Danske Bank for their continued support, now in its 20th season, of all the Ulster Schools’ competitions.
Paul then went on to present the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate finalist medals to all the players involved and the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate to Harry Anderson, captain of the victorious Royal School, Armagh 2ndxv team.
Meanwhile, at Banbridge Academy, Dromore High School and Portadown College played in the final of the Danske Bank 2ndxv Trophy.
The final score in this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy final was Portadown College 22 Dromore High School 7.
After the final whistle, Sam Grattan, Banbridge RFC representative on the Ulster Branch, Irish Rugby Football Union, congratulated both teams, as well as their coaches, on reaching the final, thanked the parents/guardians of all the players for their support given to the players throughout the season, thanked the referee, Graham Gibson, for the way in which he controlled the game, thanked Banbridge Academy, and especially Gareth McClintock, for the use of facilities and hosting the game and thanked the Danske Bank for their continued support, now in its 20th season, of all the Ulster Schools’ competitions.
Sam then went on to present the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy finalist medals to all the players involved and the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy to Lucas McClements, captain of the victorious Portadown College team.
On Thursday 20th February, Friends’ School, Lisburn was the venue when Banbridge Academy played Belfast High School in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy.
This Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy final was won by Belfast High School by 31-7.
After the final whistle, Sam Grattan, Banbridge RFC representative on the Ulster Branch, Irish Rugby Football Union, congratulated both teams, as well as their coaches, on reaching the final, thanked the parents/guardians of all the players for their support given to the players throughout the season, thanked the referee, Michael Pollock, for the way in which he controlled the game, thanked Friends’ School, Lisburn, and especially Ivor Monaghan, for the use of facilities and hosting the game and thanked the Danske Bank for their continued support, now in its 20th season, of all the Ulster Schools’ competitions.
Sam then went on to present the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy finalist medals to all the players involved and the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy to Ewan Morrison, captain of the victorious Belfast High School team.
On the evening of Friday 21st February, CIYMS RFC was the venue when Campbell College, Belfast and Wallace High School played in the floodlit final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup.
This game was played in front of a large crowd of spectators with the Campbell College, Belfast team recording a 30-5 victory.
After the final whistle, Neale Wilson, Belfast Harlequin’s RFC representative on the Ulster Branch, Irish Rugby Football Union, congratulated both teams, as well as their coaches, on reaching the final, thanked the parents/guardians of all the players for their support given to the players throughout the season, thanked the referee, David Wilson, and his team of Matthew Shields and Matthew Peak, for the way in which they all controlled the game, thanked CIYMS RFC, and especially Chris Shields and David Peden, for the use of facilities and hosting the game and thanked the Danske Bank for their continued support, now in its 20th season, of all the Ulster Schools’ competitions.
Neale then went on to present the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup finalist medals to all the players involved and the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup to Harry Scandrett, captain of the victorious Campbell College, Belfast 3rdxv team.
Also on Friday 21st February, Royal School, Dungannon was scheduled to have played Ballyclare High School in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Bowl.
However, this game fell victim to the wet weather conditions and has been rearranged to be played on Monday 24th February at the Royal School, Dungannon.
Saturday 22nd February was a busy day at Medallion level with two Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 1/2 finals, two Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate 1/2 finals as well as the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl final scheduled to take place
However, the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl final which was scheduled to have been played at Stevenson Park, home of Dungannon FC, with Royal School, Armagh playing Enniskillen Royal Grammar School, was postponed due to an unplayable pitch.
In the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield, Royal Belfast Academical Institution defeated Campbell College, Belfast by 15-0 at Pirrie Park.
Meanwhile, at Grosvenor Grammar School, Sullivan Upper School and Friends’ School, Lisburn played out a 12-12 draw.
The replay of this Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 1/2 final will take place on Tuesday 25th February.
The final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield will take place at the Kingspan Stadium on Tuesday 4th March at 2-30pm.
In the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate, the game involving Rainey Endowed School and Royal School, Dungannon was postponed until Thursday 27th February.
Down High School hosted Omagh Academy and won the game by 28-15.
The Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Subsidiary Shield 1/2 finals took place when Banbridge Academy played Methodist College, Belfast and Dalriada School hosted Campbell College, Belfast.
The score at the Lurgan Road venue was Banbridge Academy 19 Methodist College, Belfast 29.
The Banbridge Academy points came through tries from Ethan Houston, Miles Mawson and Noah Haughey.
Andrew Jackson was successful with two of his conversion kicks.
The Methodist College, Belfast team scored five tries through Matthew Gourley, James Reid, Techin McGarvey, Sam Nixon and Oliver Gartley.
Louis Curran added two successful conversion kicks.
Meanwhile, Dalriada School lost to by 45-3 in the second of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Subsidiary Shield semi-finals.
Alfie Millar kicked a consolation penalty goal for the Dalriada School team.
The Campbell College, Belfast team scored seven tries through Iaith Hanash, James Callaghan, Rus Lovo, Paddy Dorian, Cal McKinney, with two and Ethan Kennedy.
Henry Ralston added the extras to five of the Campbell College, Belfast tries.
The final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Subsidiary Shield will take place at the Kingspan Stadium on Wednesday 12th March at 2-30pm.
In the second 1/2 final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Bowl, Limavady Grammar School entertained Friends’ School, Lisburn.
Limavady Grammar School won the game by 12-10 with James Laird kicking four successful penalty goals.
Gethin Mageean scored a first half try, which was converted by Ross Glover with Ross adding a second half penalty for the Friends’ School, Lisburn team.
The final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Bowl will take place at the Kingspan Stadium on Wednesday 5th March at 2-30pm.
In the 1/2 finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Trophy, Dromore High School played Antrim Grammar School and Foyle and Londonderry College played Larne Grammar School.
The scoreline, at the end of the game at the Barban Hill venue read, Dromore High School 14 Antrim Grammar School 39.
The Dromore High School points came through a penalty try and a try from Aaron Bell, which was converted by Daniel Ennis McMannus.
The Antrim Grammar School team points came through tries from Jonah Woolley, Jack McNeilly, withy a brace, Isaac Lynn and Eoin Byrne.
Isaac Lynn completed a fine personal performance with four successful conversions as well as kicking two penalty goals.
Meanwhile, the game involving Foyle and Londonderry College and Larne Grammar School finished with a scoreline of Foyle College 5 Larne Grammar School 22.
Ollie Allen scored an unconverted try for the Foyle College team.
Ryan McDowell, with two and Jonny Dallas scored the Larne Grammar School tries with Ethan Duncan adding two successful penalty kicks as well as one penalty goal.
