Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 21st September 2019

There were two midweek fixture played on Tuesday 17th September in the lead up to a number of other midweek fixtures as well as a full list of fixtures on Saturday 21st September.
The Grange School from Chile were welcome visitors to Londonderry on Tuesday 17th September when they played the Foyle and Londonderry College Senior teams. Both games were entertaining with free flowing rugby being the order of the day. The Grange School won both games with the Foyle College teams adding considerably to the occasion with their ability to attack from all areas of the pitch.
On Wednesday 18th Larne Grammar School played a Ballymena Academy “Select” xv with their 1stxv and Ballymena Academy 4thxv win their 2ndxv.. The Ballymena Academy “Select” xv recorded a 55-7 victory and, in a close encounter, a 14-10 victory for their 4thxv.
Meanwhile the Royal School, Armagh 3rdxv team hosted Banbridge Academy 2ndxv in a game the RS Armagh team won by 12-7. Jack Currie and Matthew Kells scored the RS Armagh tries with Matthew adding one conversion.
On Thursday 19th September the Grange School from Chile continued their tour of the Province when they played games against the Belfast Royal Academy Senior team. The Grange School won the game by 55-12 with Cameron Douglas and Ryan Jameson scoring the Belfast Royal Academy tries one of which was converted by Ryan.
The “Match of the Day” took place at the Galgorm Road when Ballymena Academy played Royal Belfast Academical Institution in a game the Ballymena Academy team won by 30-19. The home team had built up a 16-12 lead by the break with a try from Matthew Corr and three penalties and one conversion from Ross McKay. The Belfast Inst first half points came through tries from Adam Cooke and Adam Byrne as well as one conversion from Ronan Boyle.
The second half saw the Ballymena Academy team score two more tries through Dean Millar and Andrew Donald with Tyler McNeill adding two conversions. The Royal Belfast Academical Institution team scored their second half points through a Jack Leathem try which was converted by Ronan Boyle.
Bangor Grammar School played Portadown College and recorded an impressive 65-7 win. Highlight of the game was the performance of Patrick Dobie who ran in five tries for the home team. Cameron Stewart scored two tries with Finn Ritchie, Conor Lusty Harry Angus and Luke Norman each touching down for one try. Ewan McKenzie was successful with five conversion kicks.
The Portadown College points came through a Jack Orr try which was converted by Adam Speers.
Belfast Royal Academy hosted the Royal School, Armagh team at the JC Picken Playing Fields at Mallusk. Despite a very committed and spirited performance from the Belfast Royal Academy team it was the Royal School, Armagh team that emerged as 34-10 winners at the no side whistle. Liam Davis and Andrew Greer scored the unconverted tries for the Belfast Royal Academy team.
The Royal School, Armagh points came through tries from James Campbell, who touched down twice, Ryan Finlay, Ethan McAtarsney and Peter Taylor, who scored also two tries. Ethan was successful with two of his conversion kicks.
Cambridge House Grammar School played Friends’ School, Lisburn and recorded a well- deserved 26-21 victory. The Cambridge House team scored four tries and three conversions in the course of the game. Rhys Ervine scored two tries with James McNabney and Andrew Wilson each scoring one try. Josh Caldwell was successful with three conversion kicks.
The Friends’ School, Lisburn points came through tries from Kyle Gormley, Thomas McCluskey and Alex Murphy. Reece Malone was successful with all three of his conversion kicks.
Campbell College, Belfast played Ballyclare High School and won the game by 19-10. The Campbell College team took a 7-0 lead when they scored an early try through Paddy Mc Alpine which was converted by Jack Bonnar. The Ballyclare High School responded with unconverted tries from Matty Orr and Zachary Scarlett to see them take a 10-7 lead into the break.
Two second half tries by Archie Gillies and Cal Florence for Campbell College, one of which was converted by Jack Bonnar, secured the 19-10 win for the Campbell College, Belfast team.
Coleraine Grammar School played Omagh Academy in a game the Coleraine Grammar School team won by 41-15. Rory Telfer scored three tries for the Coleraine GS team with Cameron Leighton, Ryan O’Kane and Callum Wallace each scoring one try. Harry Caskey was successful with one penalty and four conversion kicks.
The Omagh Academy team displayed great commitment throughout the game and got some reward for their endeavours with Niall Alexander scoring two tries and Jake Reid kicking one penalty as well as a conversion. It was a very young Omagh Academy team which featured three debutants in Carl Logan, Daniel Armstrong and Craig Feeborn-all of whom played very well.
Dalriada School played Rainey Endowed School in their annual Arthur Topping Memorial Trophy fixture. It was a closely contested game from which the Rainey team emerged as 14-7 winners. The Rainey Endowed School points came through tries from Max Millar and Marc Seffen with Daniel Barfoot adding both conversions.
The Dalriada School points came through a try from James McCormick which was converted by Andrew Gervais..
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played Regent House School in a game the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School won by 46-5. David Stinson scored three tries for the Enniskillen RGS team. Callum Smyton scored two with Henry Keyes, Michael Rooney and Sam Balfour each scoring one try. George Foster was successful with three conversion kicks.
The Regent House School points came through an unconverted try from Josh Herron.
Grosvenor Grammar School hosted Down High School at the Cameronian Drive venue in a game the Down High School team won by 46-12. The Down High School team scored eight tries in the course of the game. Jonathan Graham and Jacob Cross each scored twice with Matthew Reynolds, Rory Wilson, Ben Gibson and Luka Walsh each scoring one try. Luka Walsh was successful with three conversion kicks.
The Grosvenor Grammar School points came through tries from Lewis Young and Robbie Dugan with Adam Moore adding one conversion.
Larne Grammar School played Wellington College, Belfast and recorded a deserved 34-14 victory at the end of a game where both teams used extended squads. The Larne GS points came through tries from Steven Dickie, who touched down twice, Jack Withers, Jack Lough, Alistair Mills and Robbie Orr. Jack Moore and Robin Wynn each added one conversion.
The Wellington College, Belfast points came through tries from Tom Stanfield and Justin Bingham with Tom successfully converting both tries.
Lurgan College played Dromore High School in a closely contested game the Lurgan College team won by 21-17. Alex Dixon scored an early try for the Lurgan College team, which was converted by Harry Bird, to see his team into a 7-0 lead. Dromore High School responded with an unconverted try from Ryan Rodgers to reduce the deficit to 7-5. Josh Woods then scored a try for the Lurgan College team, which was converted by Harry Bird, to see the Lurgan College team into a 14-5 lead at the break.
Andrew Fisher rumbled over for an unconverted try for the Dromore High School team early in the second half to reduce the Lurgan College lead to 14-10. From the restart the Lurgan College team took control of possession and Ryan Allen ran in for a try, once again converted by Harry Bird, to increase the Lurgan College lead to 21-10. It was the ambitious play which led to a converted try from Xander Lowham for the Dromore High School team which ensured the game finished with the Lurgan College team as 21-17 winners.
Limavady Grammar School hosted the “North West” Derby game when they played Foyle and Londonderry College. The Limavady Grammar School team won the game by 49-0.
Methodist College, Belfast hosted the Belvedere College team from Dublin in a game the Belvedere College team won by 38-26. Callum Davidson scored two tries for the Methodist College team with Harry McCartney and Adam Reid touching down for one try apiece. Callum was successful with three of his conversion kicks.
Sullivan Upper School hosted the Royal School, Dungannon team and won a high scoring game by 35-17.The Royal School, Dungannon points came through a try from Jack Girvan, a try from Logan McIlravie as well as two conversions and a penalty from Jack.
Wallace High School travelled to play Castleknock College in Dublin and lost the game by 19-0.
