Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 19th January 2019
On Monday 14th January Wallace High School played Enniskillen Royal Grammar School in the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup. The Wallace High School team won the game by 31-17.
On Tuesday 15th Omagh Academy played the Royal School, Dungannon Medallion team in the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield. The Royal School, Dungannon team won the game by 24-5.
Both teams would like to thank Omagh Academicals RFC for the provision of facilities and hosting this game.
On Wednesday 16th January Lurgan College and Craigavon Senior High School played in the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield. The Craigavon Senior High School team won the game by 22-8.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate Cambridge House Grammar School hosted Larne Grammar School in an entertaining game the Cambridge House Grammar School team won by 24-15.
On the same afternoon Limavady Grammar School 3rdxv and St Columba’s College, Stranorlar were due to play in the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate competition. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, St Columba’s College was unable to fulfil the fixture and Limavady Grammar School will proceed to the next stage of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate competition.
Royal Belfast Academical Institution 4th xv hosted Sullivan Upper 3rdxv in the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup. The Royal Belfast Academical Institution 4thxv team won the game by 43-5.
On Thursday 17th January Antrim Grammar School hosted Belfast High School in the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy competition. The Belfast High School team won the game by 52-12.
On Friday 18th January Wallace High School travelled to Ashbourne RFC where they played the Cistercian College, Roscrea team in a game the Wallace High School team won the game by 42-21. Harry McMeekin put in a “Man of the Match” performance with a hat trick of tries for the Wallace High School team while Ben Carson touched down twice and Kyle Patton scored one. Nathan Doak was successful with two penalty kicks as well as three conversions.

On Saturday 19th there were two 2nd Round Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup games played. Belfast Royal Academy hosted Ballymena Academy in a game the Ballymena Academy team won by 27-7. Methodist College, Belfast travelled to play the Rainey Endowed School team and came away with a 33-0 victory.
In the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate competition Belfast High School played Banbridge Academy and won the game by 29-10. In the same competition Lurgan College hosted Friends’ School, Lisburn in a game the Friends’ School, Lisburn team won by 22-14, Strabane Academy hosted Coleraine Grammar School in a game the Coleraine Grammar School team won by 24-15 and Carrickfergus Grammar School played Regent House School in a game the Regent House School team won by 34-20
In the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup Methodist College, Belfast 4th xv played Ballyclare High School 3rdxv. The Methodist College, Belfast 4thxv team won the game by 17-10.
In the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Bangor Grammar School played Friends’ School, Lisburn and won the game by 36-7, Rainey Endowed School played Limavady Grammar School and won the very close game by 3-0, Royal School, Armagh played Portadown College and won the game by 31-0, Down High School played Grosvenor Grammar School in a game the Grosvenor Grammar School team won by 19-17, Dromore High School played Dalriada School and won the game by 38-7 and Cambridge House Grammar School played Belfast Royal Academy in a very close encounter the Belfast Royal Academy team won by 12-10.
Once the results from the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield and Trophy competitions were collated the draws for the next stages of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield, Bowl and Trophy competitions took place. The results of the draws are as follows 🙂

These games are scheduled to be played on/before Saturday 2nd February 2019
Quite a few 1st xv friendly games were scheduled for Saturday 19th January and four games were played.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School hosted the Royal School, Dungannon team and won an extremely close game by 15-14. Ryan Phair and Callum Smyton scored the tries for the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School team with Eddie Keys adding one conversion, as well as the penalty, to secure the victory.
The Royal School, Dungannon team put in an impressive performance and scored two tries through Adam Junk and Peter Nicholl. Jack Girvan was successful with both conversions.
Foyle and Londonderry College played Portadown College in a game the Portadown College team won by 45-21. Michael Hatrick, Keelin Coyle and Dane McClements scored the Foyle and Londonderry College tries with Keelin adding three successful conversions.
The Portadown College points came through tries from Ryan Neill, Ethan Williamson and Christopher Thornberry, who each scored two, Rhys Heasty and Dylan Nelson. Adam Speers added the extras to five of the tries.
Rainey Endowed School hosted Bangor Grammar School in a game which saw the Rainey Endowed School team record a morale boosting 45-7 victory. Rainey scored seven tries through Bryan Hall, who touched down twice, Bryn Davies, Joel Bell, David Dripps, Ross Speers and Sebastian Hastings. Harry Evans was successful with five of his conversion kicks.
Aaron Sexton scored the consolation try for the Bangor Grammar School team with Rhys Larmour adding the conversion.
Royal School, Armagh played Campbell College, Belfast in a game the Royal School, Armagh team won by 22-18. The Royal School, Armagh team scored four tries through Sam Rainey, Benji Boyd and Jonny Agnew, who touched down twice. Romain Morrow added one conversion.
The Campbell College, Belfast points came through tries from Paddy McAlpine and Kieran Robertson with Conor Rankin adding two penalties as well as one conversion.
